The peacock network is dropping their medical drama Saving Hope from the schedule. While the TV series hasn’t been officially cancelled by NBC, the writing is certainly on the wall.
Saving Hope revolves around the staff of a major hospital. The charismatic Chief of Surgery (Michael Shanks) suffers a massive brain hemorrhage on his wedding day and ends up in a coma. This leaves the facility in chaos and his fiance and fellow surgeon (Erica Durance) in a state of shock. It doesn’t help matters that her former boyfriend (Daniel Gillies) — also a brilliant surgeon — has arrived to work at the same facility. Others in the cast include Michelle Nolden, K. C. Collins, Kristopher Turner, Julia Taylor Ross, Ben Ayres, Huse Madhavji, Salvatore Antonio, and Glenda Braganza.
The TV show has been struggling in the ratings from the start and back in July hit a series low of a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with just 2.20 million viewers. Still, it was scripted programming that NBC was licensing from Canada so it wasn’t costing them much.
The plan was to air the final two episodes of the season on successive Saturdays — first on September 1st and 8th, then on the 8th and 15th. Now, according to TV Line, the 12th and 13th installments will be released online instead.
While there’s essentially no chance of Saving Hope returning to NBC, the TV series has already been renewed for a second season by CTV in Canada.
Will US viewers be able to watch the second season? Well, Saving Hope could be released on DVD at some point and there’s also a chance that a cable channel could pick up the show. Ion has acquired the rights to air episodes of fellow Canadian exports The Listener and Flashpoint — two shows that have aired on NBC and CBS respectively.
What do you think? Are you sorry that NBC is dropping Saving Hope? Would buy a DVD set or follow it to a cable channel?
I will follow this show to any other network that displays the intelligence and creative thinking that NBC obviously lacks. Pulling the last episodes in favor of “reality” show reruns is just another indication of the poor choices that NBC executives continue to make in pursuit of the almighty dollar. Isn’t it odd that the “Big 3” Networks are so worried that viewers are abandoning them for other options but never seem to understand that making stupid choices like this is exactly WHY we leave.
Thoroughly Disappointed and Confused by NBC!!!
I really enjoyed this show. First network show in years that I was dedicated to watching weekly. Boo to NBC!!!
I can’t believe NBC is willing to cancel the last 2 shows in favor of what, REPEATS??? How absurd is that? Why were they going to move the last 2 shows to Saturday to begin with, Thursday night was doing just fine. Who wants to watch repeats of a talent show, I don’t. I actual like watching America’s Got Talent because they don’t age discriminate. I will stop watching AGT now that they are pulling this. Yeah, Saving Hope is a scripted show but its being produced in Canada not The USA and NBC isn’t losing money for that, they… Read more »
I would buy the DVD or watch on the Internet. Great show!
really sad to see the show cancelled..will try to find it somewhere else.
Love that show..come on guys ….step up and renew it!!!!!!!!!!
What is up with NBC? First Harry’s Law and now Saving Hope? UGH!
Love the show and would follow it to cable, dvd or where ever it ends up. It is just wrong not to show the last two episodes.
Typical and expected. Of course, I will buy the DVD’s and find other means to watch season 2.
Let netflix air some current episode of season 2. it will make us more happy to stream them.
Yep! Would definately follow SH to DVD or another cable channel. I would never watch TV if not for cable. Networks are showing worthless television. Good luck NBC. This was what brought me back to your channel after years of never tuning into any of your programming.
I too will follow the show on cable. There are too many reality shows
I’d happily follow Saving Hope to a cable channel. I’ve already planned on buying the DVD’s when/if they come out. If it doesn’t get picked up by a cable channel – I’ll just find other means to watch Season 2. Once again, one of the big 3 networks has proven that they aren’t worth watching. Saving Hope was the first time I’ve watched NBC in over 5 years. And the first “major” network show I’ve watched in 4 years. It will be a long time before I watch anything else. I’ll stick with the cable networks where they actually give… Read more »
I am just glad I can get CTV and hope they continue to show it. I was really upset to see it missing from Thursday’s line-up but thought it was because of the %#&*%#*** convention, but no…just cancelled leaving us hanging. I see that Bravo has already picked it up and is starting right back again at the pilot episode. Good for Canada with its winning series Listener, Flashpoint, Rookie Blue, King and now Saving Hope. We have good taste up here there’s no denying it! Additionally, Warehouse 13 is back as well for all the sci fi lovers.
Love this show. I surprised myself liking it. Hope someone else picks it up.
omg… i am so upset that they get me to watch a show then they don’t let me see the last 2 episodes… are they trying to lose viewers? because i will never watch nbc again, but i would gladly watch Saving Hope on a cable channel. Michael Shanks is an amazing actor so i would follow any show he is in, anywhere.
