The peacock network is dropping their medical drama Saving Hope from the schedule. While the TV series hasn’t been officially cancelled by NBC, the writing is certainly on the wall.
Saving Hope revolves around the staff of a major hospital. The charismatic Chief of Surgery (Michael Shanks) suffers a massive brain hemorrhage on his wedding day and ends up in a coma. This leaves the facility in chaos and his fiance and fellow surgeon (Erica Durance) in a state of shock. It doesn’t help matters that her former boyfriend (Daniel Gillies) — also a brilliant surgeon — has arrived to work at the same facility. Others in the cast include Michelle Nolden, K. C. Collins, Kristopher Turner, Julia Taylor Ross, Ben Ayres, Huse Madhavji, Salvatore Antonio, and Glenda Braganza.
The TV show has been struggling in the ratings from the start and back in July hit a series low of a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with just 2.20 million viewers. Still, it was scripted programming that NBC was licensing from Canada so it wasn’t costing them much.
The plan was to air the final two episodes of the season on successive Saturdays — first on September 1st and 8th, then on the 8th and 15th. Now, according to TV Line, the 12th and 13th installments will be released online instead.
While there’s essentially no chance of Saving Hope returning to NBC, the TV series has already been renewed for a second season by CTV in Canada.
Will US viewers be able to watch the second season? Well, Saving Hope could be released on DVD at some point and there’s also a chance that a cable channel could pick up the show. Ion has acquired the rights to air episodes of fellow Canadian exports The Listener and Flashpoint — two shows that have aired on NBC and CBS respectively.
What do you think? Are you sorry that NBC is dropping Saving Hope? Would buy a DVD set or follow it to a cable channel?
This is disappointing. I didn’t even know that the shows had been moved to Saturdays. Now it’s gone. I would definitely watch the show on a cable channel — it’s a good show, so what difference. I’m not certain I’d buy the DVD, but I might.
I LOVEE SAVING HOPE!! PLEASE SAVE IT!! BUT I WILL WATCH IT ON DVD AND OR DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO WATCH IT
Cancelling a show with 2 more episodes in the season? Really NBC? For reruns? Awesome. Guess I’ll just go back to not watching your programming and tune into Saving Hope another way.
I love saving hope. I watch it every time it comes on. Please don’t cancelle it, its my favorite show.
I loved it and hate that it was cancelled. Please NBC – give us the last two episodes.
I hope that a cable station picks up this show for the next season. I , and many others are very disappointed in NBC for cancelling “Saving Hope”. I plan to watch this show by what ever means are necessary!
Sure, I would watch on DVD. Or, better yet, on Netflix or Hulu. But, my fear is not having access to it at all – like with Jeremiah Season 2.
I really with they didn’t cancel Saving Hope…
Love Saving Hope and will watch it wherever I can (DVD, another channel, etc.)! Leave it to NBC to ruin everything. Haven’t watched a show on the channel in years and it will be years before I do again. Was going to watch Revolution, but why, so I can get into it just to have NBC cancel it before the end? Please air last two episodes of Saving Hope on tv!!!!!!
I totally agree. What’s the point of watching a show, just to have it cancelled before the season is over. I was really looking forward to watch revolution. But I don’t think I will b/c i don’t want the samething happening a 3rd time. Its just like charlie’s angels, right when it got good they cancelled it.
This really stinks. Savind Hope is the only show on that all of my family agree on we all sit and watch it my in-laws even watch it with us… Truly NBC u need to give it another shot we LOVE this show never missed any (had to record some day)
I LOVE this show, I hope NBC keeps it!
I would follow Saving Hope to cable or dvd. I will find a way to see the last 2 episodes of season one.
I loved the show. Very mad NBC decided not to air it anymore. – I would definitely follow it to a cable channel. If no cable channel picks it up, hopefully it can find its way to my netflix!
I can’t stand reality shows and since the last two shows were made why can’t they show them? A rerun of a reality show just sounds stupid. Yes I will follow on computer or netflix.
I would watch saving hope on any channel that wanted to carry it, and would definately watch it online and dvd. I do think NBC is making a big mistake cancelling the show.
This is perposterous. And yes i will buy it on dvd.
