Just as students are looking forward to winter break, Netflix has ordered the Sex Education TV show to series. Described as a “coming-of-awkward-age dramedy,” Sex Education comes from creator Laurie Nunn, who is new to the world of series TV. She is writing the series, which should premiere in 2019. Catastrophe vet Ben Taylor will direct and executive produce.
Netflix says Sex Education follows Otis Thompson, an inexperienced, socially uneasy high school student, who happens to be the son of a sex therapist. Thanks to easy access to his mother’s professional materials, he and his “bad girl” classmate, Maeve, set up a sex therapy program for their peers. No cast has been announced. When we know more, you will too.

NEW COMING OF AWKWARD AGE DRAMEDY SEX EDUCATION, COMING TO NETFLIX
Hollywood, CA – November 28, 2017 — Sex, relationships and insecurity are intertwined in Sex Education, a new charming coming-of-awkward-age dramedy, debuting globally on Netflix in 2019.
Meet Otis Thompson – a socially awkward high school virgin who lives with his mother, a sex therapist. Surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis is a reluctant expert on the subject. When his home life is revealed at school, Otis realizes that he can use his specialist knowledge to gain status. He teams up with Maeve, a whip-smart bad-girl, and together they set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems. Through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realises he may need some therapy of his own.
“We are delighted to bring Laurie Nunn’s brilliant creation to life with such a gifted team. Netflix is an exceptional partner and we are thrilled to go on this journey together,” said Jamie Campbell, Eleven.
