Last year, Shades of Blue debuted with strong ratings, and NBC renewed it after only five episodes aired. As the season progressed, the numbers declined. Fewer than two thirds of the premiere audience tuned in for the season finale. Will the ratings continue to fall? Will Shades of Blue be cancelled or renewed for season three on NBC?
A New York City crime drama, Shades of Blue stars Jennifer Lopez, Ray Liotta, Warren Kole, Drea de Matteo, Dayo Okeniyi, Vincent Laresca, Hampton Fluker, Sarah Jeffery, and Gino Anthony Pesi. The series follows Harlee Santos (Lopez) and her work “family” of Brooklyn detectives. Season two finds Harlee navigating her fractured relationship with Wozniak (Liota) as she struggles to conceal the fact that she killed her daughter’s father. Not only are Stahl (Kole) and the FBI scrutinizing their precinct, so is Internal Affairs Detective Verco (Dov Davidoff). Meanwhile, a former member of their crew, Julia Ayres (Anna Gunn) runs for mayor, which brings her association with Harlee and Wozniak to the fore. The two are blindsided, when Ayres’ corrupt connections pit them against the Mafia. **Status update, below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/17 update: Shades of Blue has been renewed for a third season on NBC. Details here.
5/22 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The first season of Shades of Blue averaged a 1.17 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.79 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Shades of Blue TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season on NBC?
**4/4/2018 update: Shades of Blue has been cancelled by NBC. While there will be no season four, the network has announced the premiere date for the third and final season. Details here.
The show finished 0.01 ahead of Blacklist Redemption. Now it is time for NBC to look at this and say “What The Heck Were We Thinking” and do the right thing. Cancel it! What an embarrassment. Mysteries of Laura fans should be outraged.
Just what I thought. Plus, it’s got to be pretty expensive.
Love the show everyone has a opinion and that’s mine
I love this show! It’s the only prime time network show I watch because nothing else on TV is any good. Ray Liotta, Jenifer Lopez, and the rest of the cast do an excellent job.
I really hope NBC brings it back for season 3.
Unfortunately, despite the pathetic ratings, the show has been renewed. The most overpaid cast in the business considering the pathetic ratings.
Shades of Blue is a good show. Jennifer Lopez and Ray are great in their roles along with the supporting cast. I’m excited for another season. The ratings are good enough, I mean the show continues to win its time slot.
The ratings for this debacle keep going down. Close to $500,000 per episode for the 3 top stars together. After decades of ratings MEANING SOMETHING, sucking up, Cronyism and Nepotism are now more important to NBC. Are there people that need to be fired at this network? You bet there are. They can say how wonderful they are doing all they want. I’m not looking thru rose colored glasses. I see the truth.
I wanted to like this show but can not really get into it. The cast are crooked cops and Ray Liotta even though he is a great actor plays such a mean character I just would not like to see it renewed for a Season 3.
Cancel, ratings are abysmally low.
Right there with you. The 3 top stars in the show make over $400,000 per episode together. The ratings stink. However, they already Renewed this piece of garbage because they want to suck up to Jennifer Lopez and want her to be in other shows they have. Absolutely, disgusting.
CAncelled their ratings are abysmally low.
wow, another show no one watches getting renewed, guess networks don’t care about making money any more
The show was renewed for a season three and it isn’t even averaging a 1.0 Sounds like between NBC Universal and NBC, the asylum is out of control again. They get one new show with good ratings, and it’s crap city renewal time.
Love love love!!! Ray Liotta is just fun to watch and Jennifer Lopez is a bad ass…she broke that guy’s neck like a boss! Please find a way to keep this one on!
I like it! Much better than Chicago Justice, which is rather…dry! It keeps your attention right to the end!
Cancel please
Amen to that Cancel Please request. The show averaged a 1.17 without +3 and +7 ratings last season and people are so excited about its return that it does a 1.0 for the first episode.
I know, how in the heck did this get renewed in the first place??
NBC wants to do a whole bunch of projects with Jennifer Lopez, so they renewed this piece of garbage. NBC wants to keep her happy. Unbelievable.
Why? She can’t act, can’t sing. She is just outright terrible.
She’s going to be in a Reality show for the summer(supposedly) and they are working with her on other projects. She is outright terrible. You are 100% right.
This show is a straight up mess… Lopez and Liotta do what they can but this writers room has to be a who’s who of Hollywood Hacks.
This is one of the best shows I have seen in a long while ,writing is even better in season 2. Can’t wait for every week to see the next one ,,,love it
Ratings say otherwise.
Why so few? 🙁
