There’s lots of data that network execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These charts will be updated daily, as new ratings data becomes available.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.

I cannot understand why ABC would cancel Chew! I have learned so much from this show! And it presents a nice variety! For instance today they had lamb but also fried rice. Now all we are going to get is another hour of news— more Donald Trump! Don’t get me wrong we need national news but not all the time. Find another chef to add. Chew has lost almost half of its hosts! But that was not the fault of the concept! Surely this can be fixed!!
Best shows on ABC cancelled?? Designated Survivor and The Crossing. I looked forward to both every week.

We were sorry when DESIGNATED SURVIVOR was cancelled. We enjoyed it so much. We are quickly losing interest in watching TV with all our faves disappearing…
ABC GOT SO CAUGHT UP IN POLITICS AND HOW THEY LOOK IN PUBLIC OR PUBLIC OPINION THAT THEY CANCELED A SHOW WHICH GAVE THE MILLIONS OF VIEWERS. I’M NOT A ROSEANN FAN. I DID WATCH HER NEW SHOW A COUPLE OF TIMES. BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO GIVE UP MONEY AND VIEWERSHIP TO APEASE PUBLIC OPINION. I’M SURE THEY HOPE THEY MADE THE RIGHT DECISION. TIME WILL TELL WHEN THEY START THEIR NEW SHOW WITHOUT THE STAR.
I personally will not watch “The Conners”. And will continue to abstain from watching ABC or any of it’s affiliated. In a time where big corporations get to pick and choose what is deemed offensive, I as the consumer also have the right to pick and choose what I choose to watch.

I can’t believe that they cancelled Deception! I watch the Good Doctor also, and I think I liked Deception more! The plot was really great and kept people on their toes! Loved the finale!
Cancelling Roseanne was by far the most stupid thing ABC has done. Hopefully Fox will pick it up

So they renewed For The People and Agents of SHIELD but cancelled The Crossing and Deception and Designated Survivor. Shame on you ABC
You should learn that ABC can end a series but can’t make one episode to put in the can to actually close a series. I don’t watch anything on ABC after the pathetic ending of Castle.

I was one of the millions of fans calling for it to be canceled. After we heard they canceled all the women’s characters including Stana Katic it was time to leave the lunacy. If you’ve got a great show that people like the characters, you don’t get rid of most of your cast to screw up the show. Yep, they were stupid and they continue to be stupid. Whoever is making their decisions needs to have their head examined.
I do agree the series ending was pathetic but it had nothing on another of my shows several years ago called The Glades. They canceled the show and literally left him dying on the floor on their wedding day. Not to minimize the Castle kerfuffle, it could have been worse I suppose.
