Is The Big Bang Theory ending soon? Recently, the Hollywood Reporter speculated that the next season of the popular CBS sitcom could be its last.
Currently, The Big Bang Theory is in the midst of their ninth season.
Though the series has been renewed for a season 10 in the 2016-2017 season, the show is already beginning to wrap up some of its longer-running storylines. Recently, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) sealed the deal in bed, and in the ninth season’s premiere, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) got married. Showrunner Steve Molaro spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about the show’s possible ending:
I think so. I can’t speak to the future or on behalf of the cast or where we’ll be then but it’s certainly possible that it could go past that. The reality is that maybe season 10 is the ending point. The real answer is I don’t know and all I can do right now is go episode to episode and try to make each one the best that we can. There’s still so many episodes to go. Even if hypothetically season 10 was the end, I wouldn’t be focusing on that yet. That seems like something that would be dealt with way down the line.”
Co-creator Chuck Lorre, whose other CBS sitcom Mike & Molly was just cancelled, said that nine seasons of Big Bang Theory have already exceeded his expectations:
I never imagined nine [seasons] and here we are. I’m not going to presume to know how many years this has because it’s ridiculous for me to guess. It’s already gone beyond my wildest dreams so anything beyond this … as long as everybody is having a good time and we’re making a show we’re proud of … then it’s worth continuing.”
While the series’ end is still up in the air, ratings for The Big Bang Theory have been high as usual. So far, the ninth season has averaged around 15.64 million viewers per episode.
What do you think? Do you watch The Big Bang Theory? When do you think the sitcom should end?
I loved TBBT and laughed out loud during the first 4 seasons. As the next were coming up, the jokes became boring, already heard and somehow the laughter was gone. I can even notice that the laughing from the audience is fake now. Turn off that laughing and you have boring and predictible scenes. It’s no longer about science or nerd things anymore (I’ve learned things thanks to this show). TBH I loved when they were the 4 of them plus Penny. Penny’s character hasn’t developed much, she’s still the dumb girl and they still try to make her the… Read more »
I agree 100% with Kate..this has got to go..I not only don’t like Bernadette, but AMY!! No thanks!! Truly since she arrived on the show my question was always WHY??? She ads absolutely nothing to the show. She’s a dull, boring person and NOT funny in the least.. It was the funniest when it was the guys and Penny..That’s it.. Otherwise it’s over …Just pull the plug already..The show is awful..They’re doing what they did w/Two and a Half Men…Lasted too long with awful Ashton Kutcher and those God awful other characters they added which made it even worse..The same… Read more »
Where I watch the early-mid season(s) episodes and still laugh, I’m so sorry to say that hasn’t happened for many a newer one. Quite the opposite in fact. It has become just another show that is dragging it’s former glory behind it, as opposed to knowing, and showing it’s audience that it still has comedic potential. Almost all the funny story lines are gone, with just normal and everyday situations left with a few predictable one liners thrown in. Nothing that everybody hasn’t heard a hundred times. Sorry.
I will watch this show until the universe ends. Please let it continue! You can’t say you love this show if you don’t want it to continue. You clearly don’t love it like we do. This is more than just a tv show. Its a representation of the intellectual shift our society is going through. It gives me hope for the future of our species. AND PLEASE there is plenty more comedy fodder to be used. Sheldon interacting with a baby, amy and sheldon tying the knot (the marriage agreement contract instead of a proposal), howard and bernadette’s new plot… Read more »
I disagree with you by 1000%…This show is horrible..It needs to end.. It’s beyond its expiration date.
A married couple should at LEAST have a baby
I would hate to see the show end. Each character still has some growth potential. And babies would be very challenging especially for Sheldon who is such a baby. I would have preferred Carol Burnett as Sheldon’s grandmother in the recent episode. They have not explored Raj’s girlfriend enough. Get him a new one or bring her into the group more. The writing is still very good and while some shows want to go out on a high, I think there are many more highs to come for the gang. I hope they get an 11th season and many more.… Read more »
I have mixed feelings about this show going on any longer. I hate to say it but I’m afraid it’s already passed its prime. Seasons 1-8 were great. The best!!!!! But towards the end of season 8 I found it fizzling out somewhat. It would be better to quit while they were ahead wouldn’t it? As opposed to fizzling out? I mean Jerry and Elaine never did commit. Kramer never did get a real job and George never did find Mrs. Right. Just sayin…..
I am agree the show should stay. There are very few shows that have a intelligent side to it. It is unique and that is why it should stay a little longer. I guess the right question is whether Jim Parsons wants to continue with the show? If he doesn’t then the show will end.
Season 10 to be “The Big Bang Theory”‘s last? This is what I’m fearing. Everyone insists on “The Big Bang Theory” to end after its 10th season, but it cannot, should not, and will not end. It doesn’t have to stop producing original episodes. If “Two and a Half Men” went 12 seasons, maybe “TBBT” can also. I just want “TBBT” to go on as long as possible. Ending after its 10th season will just create a parallel with NBC’s “Friends”. If it does end, then it will just be replaced with another animated “floating timeline” show. It’s not fair… Read more »
Jim I disagree with you..Friends ended as it should have. Season 10 was not its best and it would have been disastrous to keep it going as they had all to say by Season 10. It was time to end..Two and a Half Men was horrible with Ashton Kutcher and it should have ended when Charlie disappeared or died because truly, even though as a person he was a nutcase, let’s face it, those were the most hilarious shows episodes..Ashton was a very bad choice..Jon Cryer will always remain hilarious but the new cast members were awful as was the… Read more »
Never cancel it
I love the show but I want it to leave on a high. A lot of stories have “concluded” – the only thing missing is a baby. If Season 10 were to be the last season, I wouldn’t mind it. Rather it leave while still good than leave because the show was getting too boring or stupid.
Season 10 should be the final season and it should end with Penny, Amy, Bernadette, and I guess Emily all finding out they are pregnant.
Just needs to end..Who gives a crap if they’re all pregnant..Not everyone on the show wants kids.. And that wouldn’t make it any better..It just needs to end because it’s become horrible..They should hold focus groups to advise them, even if the ratings are high, which I’m truly doubting, I don’t watch, can’t watch, it’s AWFUL.. Point being, if they held these groups, they would find out how much the show needs to end ASAP…
There is a baby…Bernadette and Howard’s baby. It’s not funny. It’s 2018 and it’s over. It’s now on season 11 and it’s awful..Nothing left to be said. I really hate when they overstay their welcome. Now these last 5 years will go down in history as its very worst.. Not funny, not relevant and it’s just horrible now..It’s time to end..and the sad thing is, it’s not going to end on a high note. That was years ago..it’s ending on MANY people no longer watching stating that it’s a lousy show..
The Big Bang Theory deserved to continue after Season 10! I assure of it!
KEEP THE BIG BANG THEORY on!!!! Don’t take off another great show!!!
Keep the NERDS coming back, great show still!
This is the only comedy I like, I hope it doesn’t end.
i hope it doesn’t but it has lasted more seasons then other comedies have
It lasted longer because of the great acting & writers. I thought it was supposed to be extended for another 4 or 5 seasons.
