Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?
Things seemed to come out in pairs each episode. The doctors, nurses brought out the fact in real life you become family. With that I feel like part of my family left. I want another season but the story line needs some solidifying.
PLEASE don’t cancel Code Black!!!! I love this show! What can we do to save it?
Absolutely! This series brought me to tears just about every episode. I can’t believe that such a great show would be cancelled when so many crap shows continue on and on and on. Please bring this show back!!!!!
Keep it,well done show.
This smart medical drama has some of the finest actors and writers I’ve witnessed in this genre. Its refreshing to watch such intimately relatable characters dealing with real life situations. Many of us watch Code Black because it’s NOT the typical pablum one sees in too many “Doctor” shows. Please, Sir, may we have MORE???
Please please I always stay late to watch Code Black. I want more shows please
Yes, Code Black is one of my favorite shows!! I was really bummed to hear it had been cancelled. Please bring it back for more seasons!
Both my husband and I love this show. I could not believe it was cancelled when so many kinda boring ones keep coming back. It is exciting, real life, heart wrenching drama that you can envision happening every day someplace. The cast is fantastic, good mix of personalities. Please renew.V
YES, YES, AND YES I would definitely watch a 4th, 5th, …. season of Code Black. The storylines are fantastic and making the doctors, nurses and the rest of the medical staff being human beings with feelings for their patients. This is a wonderful show. CBS made a hugh mistake in cancelling this show. I have watched every episode all 3 seasons. I truely hope a 4th season comes about. Networks need to realize their are more people watching TV shows than just the demographics of 18-49 year olds. The rest of us should count as well!!
Would be great for it to continue on a streaming platform.. They should make it a summer series instead of airing it when it has been.
CBS is crazy for letting this go. Season four is a must, however, right now I’m old school and paying for streaming is not something I plan to do. I’m already paying a super high cable bill, not going to pay for streaming unless there becomes a super easy way to cut the cord, that doesn’t exist yet.
I would love to see a season 4! I love his show!
Please bring back Code Black. We find it brings a story reflecting real life and continues to address real issues in our society
. Spare me the diet of “Reality TV” on network television. The Kardisian’s hardly reflect real life and have expanded a culture of the nartistic society prevalent today
Best show on tv, bring it back YES!!!
One of the best shows on TV, Bring it Back PLEASE
Yes I would love a season 4 and yes I have watched every episode.
I agree with Pam 100%
