Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?
absolutely would watch my entire family and friends love code black
Yes! We would definitely watch a 4th season. We absolutely love this show. So invested in the characters. It’s a shame how these networks only worry about certain demographics when deciding on whether to renew or not….. just when we love a show it always gets cancelled.
I love Code Black and would definitely want to see it on for more seasons!
I have no idea how they can cancel such a great show.
Love Code Black…..I would love more❤️
My husband and I have enjoyed every episode of Code Black. We would love to continue watching it next season.
PLEASE bring Code Black back. It is one of my favorite shows.
Best show on TV……great writing…acting ….intelligent…dramatic. A sham quality like this is not appreciated by a wide audience
I modt definitely watch season 4. Loved watching. Very unhappy cancelled. Hope it gets picked up
I really love Code Black and my family have as well. What’s the problem? In my opinion it’s one of the best shows on CBS, if not the best. Acting cast is awesome with real-life demonstration on screen. Not a good idea to cancel. I would continue to watch wherever it is aired.
Code Black is my favorite of all the medical dramas!!! The cast is excellent, and the writing is realistic, compassionate, and well-executed. It is so refreshing to have a show that is not about sex. Thank you for the beautiful ending, but we really hope it can be reinstated.
Yes please! It seems that every show that’s worth watching doesn’t last. So frustrating! This was my favourite show from the first time I watched it! Please, bring it back for a LONG TiME!!!
Absolutely, positively yes! I love this show and have been very sad that it was cancelled. The character development that occurred in the last half of this season was so promising. I want to see what happens next with these people who have been a part of my life for 3 years. Streaming services, please pick this up!
Very disappointed that this is the final episode;I really enjoy this show and hope it gets picked up for more seasons!
Please bring Code Black back it is a great show. It would be great for the summer of 2019.
