Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?
PLEASE continue the BEST show there is….
Please — do NOT let season three be the last!! Maybe ION television will pick it up?? as a person who has watched many hospital dramas, and a nurse – this is by far the most realistic hospital drama on TV. Please find a way to continue!!
Code Black is one of the best shows on tv. Such great and inspiring character, it leaves you with warmth in your heart. Please bring it back, we needs fantastic shows like this on the tv with all the trama going on in the world right now, it keeps our minds on something other than the pain and fighting going on.
Please find someone to pick up this show. The writing has been incredible as has the acting. As a physician I find the presentation of medical cases, terminology and use of equipment on point. As a psychiatrist, I am consistently amazed at the level of knowledge of the writers, director, and actors in producing the emotion of each situation, relationship and scene. Characters have been allowed to develop in a way that not only furthers the plot, but also pulls the viewer in to engage them in who these people are and who they might become. You can’t let this… Read more »
One of the absolute best shows out there. Loved and it. Never missed a single episode. Seeing to many good shows taken off different networks….both day and night venues.
This is the best show on network. It is so real & filled with so much emotion. I love everything about this show & the characters never disappoint. It gave great insight into the reality of working in the medical field. I’m devasted to learn that it has been canceled. I hope that code black will be saved!!!!
Please continue Code Black. It’s the only show I really enjoy and I am devastated to hear that it may be canceled. Each season had ended with so many beautiful stories that need to continue. Don’t close the doors that you have just opened with this show.
I am very sad that this show was cancelled. The cast and the stories were so good. The ONLY current show that I really care about and look forward to every week. Please reconsider!!!!!

Some one please pick this show up. I am so sad to hear that code Black was cancelled. It is easily my favorite show and some other channel needs to pick it up. I would watch this show for years to come.
Please let this show continue
It is one of my absolute favorites . My co workers all talk about it too.
There are so many dumb shows still going strong . I don’t understand why the good shows always get cancelled. Please pick it up for several more seasons to come.
I love Code Black and was devastated to learn it had been cancelled. It’s unquestionably one of the best shows on TV, although definitely not for the squeamish. There is no question that I would watch a fourth season.
Love this show.
I absolutely love and enjoy Code Black. We need these kind of shows to encourage young people to keep in mind what careers are out there. The good they can do. Instead of just goals working at fast food chains. First responders deserve air time too instead of sitcoms re sex!!!
We loved the show and hope it will be picked up for a 4th season. Excellent acting and a show that shows true human emotion in the best and worst of times along with tremendous learning about the medical profession. Please bring back Code Back!
This has been the best show…great writing and no stupidity. I take that back; the stupidity has been on the part of the people who made the decision to cancel it.
