Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?
I cannot fathom why a show that is so good, gripping at times, makes me cry and laugh would be cancelled. Code Black is one of the best shows on tv right now. There is such trash on and this is the one that gets cancelled???. Not sure how it all works but maybe another network will grab the show. Or maybe NBC will realize what they have done by cancelling this show. What a cast. Please bring it back. Please!
PLEASE!!!! BRING BACK CODE BLACK!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this SHOW!!!!
Code Black is my favorite show. Please don’t cancel or change any of the characters. It is so perfect the way it is.
I love this show please don’t cancel. It’s so hard with a million channels for new shows to get their followers give it more time
Please, please, please find a way to bring it back. I cried at the end of the finale not only because it was emotional, but because I knew how much I would miss the show, it’s people and it’s stories.
Yes please. A wonderful show. I want season 4 & 5 & …..
I am a great fan and hope it finds a new home. Terrible mistake to cancel.
Please please don’t cancel this show I don’t even mind if it goes to a streaming service I will still watch it!!! Please being it back!!!! That last episode was the best one yet and this is unlike other medical dramas ! They keep it real!!! Please do not cancel but go to Netflix or amazon and I’ll continue watching every week until it ends like I have every other episode!
This is the BEST medical show series on tv! Please don’t cancel it. You have an amazing cast that compliments one another in every episode. People NEED the real feelings they get from it. Each episode portrays every day life. Love it!
Please dont cancel CODE BLACK ! It is one of THE best medical programs on tv! My husband and I , Past age 70, watch it live and have NEVER missed an episode . We really look forward to the great storyline, different medical topics being covered and the great acting. DONT take it off. We will be really upset to never see it again. Besides , the air ways are OVERRUN with silly reality shows. THIS IS LIFE on CODE BLACK . Please keep it coming. Thank you.
Each week I waited anxiously for the new episode and was never disappointed. Code Black is a fast paced drama with so much heart. The show tugs at my heart strings because the patients, doctors, and nurses deal with everyday problems, failures, family, and heartaches. I am so disappointed by the cancellation of one of the best shows I’ve ever watched.
Please DO NOT cancel Code Black…. It’s one of the shows I look forward to each week…. Bedside the medical drama it’s the feeling of real life and its experience we all encounter
Totally agitation! Every time a GREAT show comes on the networks cancel them! Did they ever think their ratings go down because of the times they air the shows? Maybe if they would look into this they could keep great shows instead of all of this crap reality tv. Totally disgusted!! Hopefully a network with sense will pick up Code Black!!
Please don’t cancel Code Black it has finally become a really great medical show and the cast is now perfect!
I agree with Richard, please don’t cancel code black.
Please don’t cancel Code Black it is a great medical show that includes real life issues and emotions many of us share, which shows we are not alone and it shows so much compassion and love and passion for saving lives medically and emotionally!
This is the only show that I watched , I really think it was cancelled because it is too moral. You could get caught up in drama , Suspense and compassionate moments all in one show. Wishing the best to all involved in this great show
