Criminal Minds: Aisha Tyler Promoted to Season 12 Regular

by Cindy McLennan, August 15, 2016

Guess who is going full time at the BAU. Aisha Tyler has been promoted to series regular in the upcoming 12th season of the Criminal Minds TV show on CBS. Tyler began recurring as forensic psychologist Dr. Tara Lewis in Criminal Minds, in the season 11 premiere. She also hosts The CW‘s improv comedy show, Whose Line is It Anyway?. Tyler’s TV breakout was as Charlie Wheeler, Ross and Joey’s love interest, in the final two seasons of Friends on NBC.

Tyler joins the returning Paget Brewster, as well as CSI: Miami veteran Adam Rodriguez, who has been cast in the series regular role of Luke Alvez. His character is a former Army ranger CBS describes as, “…an excellent tracker the BAU recruits from the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force.” The Criminal Minds TV series cast also includes Matthew Gray Gubler, Kristen Vangsness, A.J. Cook, and Joe Mantegna. Shemar Moore left Criminal Minds after season 11. Thomas Gibson was fired after season 12 began production.

Here is how CBS describes Tyler’s Criminal Minds character:

Aisha Tyler has been upped to a series regular. She plays Dr. Tara Lewis, a forensic psychologist whose expertise is studying and interviewing serial killers after they’re captured, to determine if they’re able to stand trial.

What do you think? Do you plan to watch the 12th season of Criminal Minds, or will it be too different with both Moore and Gibson gone?

Probably not, there are just some characters that a show cannot succeed without, Hodge is one of them for Criminal Minds. Fired both, or none involved in the situation. To me pushing buttons is just as vile as the kicking. Didn’t care for the Aisha character very much. or any of the other previous ones. It is a positive Emily is back. Like the CSI dude in CSI, so we’ll see, if Hodge is brought back, otherwise, may not tune…..

She’s not the man or the actor Thomas Gibson is and if they think that she can replace him, THEY ARE WRONG.

He has a history of anger problems and physical aggression.

I don’t think they think she can replace him. She recurred last season but ended up in 20 episodes. I suspect this promotion was set before Gibson was fired, worthymagic, because it must have involved contract negotiations. Still, he had two alleged physical altercations on set. It seems to me, most people would have been canned after one incident like that, in a regular job.
