It’s a dark time for fans of Dark Matter. Deadline reports Syfy has cancelled the TV show after three seasons.
The sci-fi drama follows the crew of a derelict spaceship who awake with no memory and who must work together to survive a threatening voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal, and plenty of secrets. The cast includes Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, and Zoie Palmer.
Ratings for Dark Matter have been low for some time. Overall, season three averaged a .15 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 614,000 viewers, making it one of Syfy‘s lower-rated TV shows for the 2016-2017 season.
On his blog, co-creator Joseph Mallozzi confirmed the show’s cancellation and thanked the fans, cast, and crew:
It is with great sadness that I confirm the news. Syfy has cancelled Dark Matter after three seasons.
To say that I’m incredibly disappointed would be an understatement.
I’ll save my comments and field your questions in a future blog entry. For today, I just want to extend a heartfelt thanks to my amazing crew, my wonderful cast, and to all of you, our incredible fans.
You all deserved better.”

that’s a bummer, why do they do that cancel the shows with a good plot but renew shows which are bad comic books put to tv?
I have been waiting for Dark Matter to return to SYFY this season, but I am now seeing it was cancelled. It was a really good show. It had good characters, strong plot and good visual effects – don’t understand! I have seen several of the actors in other shows and had wondered if it was coming back, evidently not. I watched it from the beginning and I am sad to see it go – it would have been nice to get at least one more season out and give some finality to the characters. LOVE THE SHOW ! Was looking forward to Season 4 when I heard it got cancelled. Was hoping to see number One return. I’m hoping the network reconsiders and renew or be picked up by another channel. Please bring it back!

Another good series ended too soon. What’s really left for those of us who really enjoy an intelligent and action-laden series, The Expanse? Krypton?

I just don’t understand that when a really good show starts to gain momentum it gets cancelled. What’s left is mind numbing nonsense. It’s all about the money…

It seems as though whenever there is a smart, cool, engaging show, where you love the characters, it gets canceled. Firefly comes to mind. Dark Matter is an excellent show. I was just looking up online to see what date the next season is going to air so that I can put it in my calendar, and I find out it’s canceled. What a disappointing shame. Good, I’m glad. We need more ghost chasing and haunted house shows.
A friend of my husband and I recommended this series, and we have binge-watching it on Netflix for the past week and loving it, and looking forward to the next season. Now we find out that it has been canceled! Even our friend didn’t know about the cancellation, and he’s just as disappointed as we are. Please bring this show back! It’s a darn good show with a lot of promise
I thoroughly enjoyed go down the paths with each character and finding new aspects or their world’s and lives unfold. I am saddened to hear that they will not be making a 4th season soon. I hope that they get picked up and renew their journey for us all to watch, possibly on Netflix or Hulu and become a series to watch there.
PLEASE renew! This is a really good storyline and deserves to be continued and explored. Forget reality TV crap about human petty drama. This storyline is the real reality of what is being created, introduced and happening today. I will not live to see it but the younger generations will think nothing of AI, robots and androids being part of everyday life on earth. This is why the series is so interesting. It is the near and distant future. Keep going!!!
I am sadden by the cancellation of Dark MATTER. I would like to suggest they make a 2 hour movie to tie up all the loose ends like they did wite the movie Sernity for the Firefly series. I urge all you fans out there to start a campaign to get a movie made at least.
SyFy how could you?! I am deeply disappointed that you are cancelling such a great show, but even more so that you are doing it without giving it the closure that it needs. You continue these poor decisions and show you are no different than rest. Why would we continue to invest our time and ourselves into these shows when you constantly continue to end things without giving us closure?!
