Deception just wrapped its first and only season, but what would’ve happened next? Recently, EP Chris Fedak told EW his plans for the cancelled ABC TV show.
The crime drama centers on Cameron Black (Jack Cutmore-Scott), an illusionist who uses his tradecraft to help the Feds apprehend some of the most elusive criminals in the world. Ilfenesh Hadera, Lenora Crichlow, Amaury Nolasco, Justin Chon, Laila Robins, and Vinnie Jones also star.
As reported earlier, ABC cancelled Deception after one season. However, EP Chris Fedak told EW there were plans for a second season:
About a month ago, we put together a pitch for season 2, which was epic and a really fun flip on the show that would have had Jonathan out in the world with the Mystery Woman, having adventures there. For me, I don’t think that Cameron would have been trapped in jail for too long. I think that he would have been there for probably 36 hours, enough time for him to seriously get into trouble. He would save himself by trying to do some magic tricks and hiding. With the DNA test or fingerprints, they would realize what had happened. He would be out of jail, but that’s only the beginning of it. The idea that you’ve been betrayed by your brother, the guy you’ve been trying to save, that’s such a delicious [story line] — Cameron going after his brother and trying to figure out what exactly happened. I think that would have been a huge twist on our show.”
And what about Mystery Woman? Would season two have revealed more about her?:
No, here’s the thing about the Mystery Woman: She’s an Ashley. No, Tiffany. I think she’s definitely a Tiffany. [Laughs] For me, one of the things about season 2 was about Johnathan coming to know who she really is, and it’s seeing her as a tragic character, in a way. What is her real name becomes a thing where it’s like, she has lots of names. She doesn’t reveal to anyone what her true name is, and that would have been something that would play out over the course of the season until she finally does, and that would be another emotional connection between the two of them. It’s the secret she keeps close, and we would of course give her a number of different names, and that was a part of the fun of it. I just like calling her Mystery Woman. The moment we were like, “So we have this Mystery Woman, and we’ll give her a name at some point.” I’m like, “Maybe we don’t.””

So bummed it is cancelled! Noooooooo! Bring it back! It was an excellent story line, kinda like Now you See Me meets Prestigious. Loved it!
I’ve been watching from the beginning. I can’t believe they cancelled it. I love this show! If the network would have given it more time, I think the ratings would have picked up. People didn’t know about it. I told my daughter-in-law, and she started watching it too. Maybe another network would pick it up?
i have just started watching this and am so disappointed to learn that this show wont have a season 2 love the idea of an illusionist helping the fbi and magic tricks they’re so cool means the show is different from others so please please bring the show back may be netflix would want to play it .
So they created a really fun show, showed it whenever and then they cancel it. Why do we bother to watch network tv anyway? I truly liked this mystery dramady? Lots of new (to me) actors and intrequing sets and locations. How do they justify not giving us a second season after spending all that money. We all know the networks only listen to the advertisers. And the constant turnover of Whose in Charge, leaves you and me on a continuous left behind and ignored roller coaster. Since it just keeps happening and we can't stop it, let's just not!
We just found Season One of Deception when looking for new shows to watch. My husband and I loved it! So disappointed to learn that it wasn’t renewed. Would have definitely added it to our regular shows to watch next year.
I thought this was a terrific show. If we are voting, my vote is yes for a season 2.
A great show that my husband and I enjoyed. A little reminiscent of Mission Impossible which was awesome. I hope that you can market season 2 on another cable network or even Amazon or Netflix. Please come back
The TV show Deception should definitely run for several seasons! I am sooo disappointed that it has been cancelled. I enjoyed it immensely. Is there a way to appeal to ABC to reinstate the series?
Finally a fun show I can watch with my kids and not be embarrassed or bored…so of course it’s cancelled

Deception was an exciting new show thst brought some life to ABC. Unfortunetly, it didn’t stand a chance and was set up for failure because it of when ABC ran it at 10:00 pm on Sunday night. The actors, writer’s and producer’s kept you on the efge of your seat with the twist and turns in each episode. I really hope another channel will pick it up and give it a chance at a decent primetime hour. It seems like most of the Networks can only profuce remakes of series thst played in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
I definatelly adore this serie (about twin brother Cam & Johnny !!) , each episode of the story is very exciting. It’s Magic !!!

me and my family we really like this series “deception”, the idea of the author that there are 2 twin brothers magicians it’s really too top. please continue this series just for season 2, we hope that another network recognizes it too
I would have gladly watched season two. I was looking forward to it but was yet again disappointed by ABCs lack of vision on how amazing this show could’ve been. Whelp going back to avoiding ABC and this is exactly why.
My husband and I loved this show; we were looking forward to seeing Season 2 BUT…knowing how networks usually choose to keep stupid shows like Bachelor/Bachelorette, moronic celebrity reality shows, Big Brother, et al, I knew they were going to cancel it! Hope another network recognizes its potential!
