The game is afoot once more. Today, CBS announced they’ve renewed Elementary for a fifth season, which will air during the 2016-2017 season.
A modern update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic Sherlock Holmes stories, Elementary stars Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson. The drama also stars Aidan Quinn and Jon Michael Hill.
Currently in its fourth season, Elementary has seen some change this year. Recently, CBS moved the series from its usual Thursday timeslot to Sundays. The move doesn’t seem to have made a noticeable difference in the ratings. So far, this season has dipped by about 20%, with a 1.03 rating in the 18-49 demo and around 5.79 million viewers.
Today, the network announced 2016-17 season renewals of 10 other shows as well — 2 Broke Girls, The Amazing Race, Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, Mom, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, Scorpion, and Survivor.

We LOVE this show and it is getting better and better. So glad to know it is renewed. It is one of the smartest shows on TV.
I think Elementary is one of the best shows on TV. The actors are excellent and so is the story line. I hope it sees a resurgence and stays on a lot longer.
I love this show! I have watched this show since the beginning. It is one of the rare shows that I am faithful to. I love the characters. I am happy that we have another season.
CBS better move Elementary back to Thursdays next season after football is done.
I don’t think CBS will move “Elementary” back to Thursday nights when they announce their fall schedule next month,even in “Rush Hour” fails. Plus, CBS will be airing only five Thursday Night Football games during September,and I imagine that the network would want to use the Thursdays-at-10-pm timeslot for a brand-new drama series.
I’m thinking “Elementary” stays on Sundays next fall. A possible reason for the move is because “Elementary” is currently CBS’s least-watched series, and the network almost typically moves one of their least-watched scripted shows to the Sundays-at-10-pm timeslot (“CSI: Miami”, “The Mentalist”, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “CSI: Cyber”).
Love the work the writers have done with the well crafted story lines and Sherlock’s dialogues.
This show is so clever and written maturely, sometimes i have to turn on closed captioning to better grasp the context. Well done! I thank the writers for not insulting us viewers with bubble gum scripts that appeal to the bottom feeders of the ideal demographic age. Stay true, don’t sell out to a demographic because that will increase your show’s value when the day for cancellation arrives. I just hope that is at least in season 10 or so.
I am so glad to know that someone else needs the CC. Sometimes I miss the great dialogue and exquisite writing without it.

I’m delighted that it’s been renewed for another season! I enjoy the show a lot, and have found this year’s episodes to more interesting, partly because of the other characters and stories.
To me, this is great news. I only watch one TV show, and this is it.
I love to watch the way Sherlock deduces information from clues that no one else is even aware of. And my favorite part of each program is that each case is solved and explained thoroughly so that a dummy like me can “get” it with no loose ends to speculate about.
Glad it’s been renewed but if only now they could do something about the volume!!!

I’m also very glad. I love these two characters, especially Lucy! She’s wonderful in this. My only critique? Have Holmes speak slower and more clearly… We have to use the closed caption for this show but it’s always worth it. Unfortunately we didn’t see most of last weeks episode due to the tragedy in Brussels… God be with the victims.
