Though Eureka remains one of Syfy’s most popular TV series, the cable channel cancelled it earlier this week. What’s even more perplexing is that Syfy announced that Eureka had been renewed for an abbreviated sixth season last week. They even issued a statement to assure viewers that they hoped to continue the show beyond that. Why was it cancelled?
Eureka executive producer Amy Berg shed some light on the move via Twitter, indicating that Syfy didn’t want to cancel the show but financially, Comcast mandated it. She said, “We are the network’s golden child in every way, except profit margins. Fact is, #Eureka is an expensive show to make. And we could not maintain the quality of our show with the cuts it would take to make us profitable for Syfy’s new parent company. Our creative execs at Syfy fought hard to keep us. Trust me, they LOVE us. We just couldn’t make the numbers work.”
The cast and crew were in the midst of filming the end of season five when the cancellation news came down. With such short notice, it seemed unlikely that they would be able to bring the show to a satisfying conclusion with such short notice.
Thankfully, Syfy has now ordered one additional episode so that, as Berg puts it, “we can end the series on our terms.” She indicated that she’s working on the series finale and it will be shot the week of the 21st.
For those keeping count, this means that there are 19 episodes of Eureka left; five more for this season and 14 for season five.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear there will be a true series finale? How would you like to see the show end?

I knew I didn’t care for Comcast now there’s another reason!
This company has made a sham of everything it has touched from cable on!
They have caused me to re-think watching TV and I am don to 4 shows all because of their
way of thinking….it is so backwards!!!!!!!
Eureka is my favorite tv show. Except for the last few episodes I have watched, it is one of the few tv shows I let my kids watch. I have also purchased all the videos of the show available, something I rarely do. I hope something can still be worked out.
I agree with everyone who thinks this stinks. Eureka is the best series I have seen in my 59 years. I love it and it should not be cancelled because it costs money to produce. Comcast needs to cancel some of those dumb reality shows and there’s your extra money.
COMCAST should be split up – It is too large of a media organization and does not benefit its customers or viewers – COMCAST should be considered a monopoly that hurts the public.

Worth a shot
I am so glad that I canceled Comcast as my cable and internet provider. This just proves, it doesn’t matter what the viewers like to watch. If it can’t make alot of money instead of some money, then it must be canceled. Well, Comcast was costing me too much money, so I canceled them!!
Comcast high people are going to cut there nose off despite there faces. Eureka is the best show on TV .So what it doesn’t make a lot of money guess what I have Comcast as my phone and TV and computer maybe if we go with a dish-network or something like that it might wake them up. I’m sure some of them are less expensive . And they are money hungry. Money is end all with them. So what do you thing
Sorry running shows together in my upset mind over the cancellation of Eureka I meant to say Zane -Jo. I there a site we can go to to protest this error in judgment? Get creative and come up with something to continue this series. (not a animation show) okay might be cute for the holidays only. Bring it back !!
What is Comcast they had the perfect line up this season on Monday nights. Please don’t bring anymore reality shows. Eureka is such a nice clean show…. love the chemistry between Jack – Alison and Jo -Zack great couples it would be a shame to end this show….What about another company picking this up such as HBO, Turner etc. Comcast needs to re-evaluate this decision. This is one of the few clean shows out there and is still very entertaining and one of the few shows I record if I am not home…. get with the program people. No more… Read more »
I actually think that there is a show about dogs and cats with their masters, and any way this is one of the best shows out there anyone who’s stupid enough to think its a bad idea to get rid of it, is just being plain stupid.
Eureka was my favorite show. If it cancels there is no reason to watch the scifi channel. I would love to see time shift and bring Ed Quinn back but this time Carter gets Alison. The show is entertaining and witty. I hope your just seeking support from viewers and intend to keep going. I would not return to the channel.
I think Eureka is the best show on TV and should not be cancelled. Whats wrong with the people in control, can’t they figure out a way to make it work? I agree with the earlier writer and feel we should boycott Comcast for their dumb decision. The SYFY channel is going to lose me also when they take their best off.
It looks like the SyFy channel is turning into another junk channel with more lame reality shows. I wonder if they are going to get Repo or some garbage like that.
Eureka has turned into another daytime soap that they moved to nighttime. It would be nice if they would do more with the plot instead of worrying about who is humping who. I gave up on Eureka last season and have not watched any of this seasons offerings (didn’t like getting sick from their lame plots).
I can see it now, a merathon of wreslin and ghoust hunters. This is the best show onTV and the major reason I watch th SYFY channel. I hope that some smart company picks it up.
what a STUPID move. Typical Comcast tho. Don;t worry about content or writing or production or the fact that it’s got a HUGE following….just put up slop that costs nothing and makes money. I suppose they’ll do yet ANOTHER reality show or something.
I’d love to see it go to another company that VALUES talented writers and actors. Even my husband and teens like Eureka. sheeeesh. Wish there was a way to boycot Comcast en mass.
Oh come on noooooooo!!!!! I love Eureka I mean come on. You know that screw comcast what other channels do they own so I can make sure not to watch them . The only show I made sure never to miss!
