General Hospital: 2017-18 Season Ratings (updated 9/21/18)

Published: September 29, 2018

General Hospital TV show on ABC: ratings (cancel or renew?)

Last season, once again, ABC didn’t announce if General Hospital would return for another year. They haven’t cancelled the show either so, as long as it stays on the air, perhaps no news is good news. Will GH survive to see a 56th season (2018-19)? How will it do in the ratings? Stay tuned.

Debuting on April 1st of 1963, General Hospital revolves around the loves, lives, and deaths of the people of Port Charles, New York. The current season’s cast includes Vinessa Antoine, Maurice Benard, Steve Burton, Matt Cohen, William deVry, Chad Duell, Michael Easton, Hayley Erin, Genie Francis, Nancy Lee Grahn, Rebecca Herbst, Roger Howarth, Finola Hughes, Chloe Lanier, Lisa LoCicero, Billy Miller, Kelly Monaco, Anthony Montgomery, Ryan Paevey, Emme Rylan, Michelle Stafford, Kirsten Storms, Donnell Turner, Robert Palmer Watkins, Maura West, Laura Wright, and Dominic Zamprogna.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available. You can see how the ratings for the four soap operas compare here.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

Note: ABC aired reruns on August 29, 30, and 31. The lower ratings for those airings were included in the demo average for the week of August 27 so we are omitting it so as not to throw off the season average.

For comparisons: The 2016-17 season of General Hospital averaged a 0.66 rating in the 18-49 female demographic with 2.55 million total viewers.

A&E | ABC | AMC | Bravo | CBS | CMT | The CW | FOX | Freeform | FX | FXX
Hallmark | HBO | History | MTV | NBC | OWN | Showtime | Starz | Syfy | TBS

What do you think? Do you still like General Hospital TV series? Would you like to see it cancelled or renewed for additional seasons?

No question–renew. Please keep it going- do whatever it takes. I have been watching the show since I arrived here in 1964-missed some episodes due to having a family and working a lot–now retired for the last 12 years I have been watching it everyday, so please keep it on the air. Thank you for whatever can be done.

I see ratings for GH have been at approx 2.5 million this fall. They are up now to 2.7 probably because they always rise over Christmas and because of Steve Burton coming back. But the overall storytelling have suffered since Ron Carlivati left. Its like the audience is always 2 steps ahead of the characters. We know everything and have to wait for the characters to learn the truth. This is the kiss of death to any show. Jean and Shelly need to go or ABC needs to rehire Carlivati to work with them.

The fact that ABC has already begun production for Alex Baldwin’s new talk show has me kind of concerned, also what concerns me ABC has not confirmed if GH will be renewed for 2017/2018 season has me on pins and needles. Please ABC don’t cancel.

I watch Every day, I am a very long time viewer, over 35 years, this show is ingrained into my daily life, to lose it would be extremely hard to cope with. I love the characters, the stories are getting better and better, and since some of the actors have all ready signed 3 year contracts, I’m really hoping it’s going to stay on. The people that have grown up watching “our soaps” are still out there doing just that, they make time for viewing, in my case, all of my family and friends know they do not call me… Read more »

I have been a faithful fan since 1978 after walking home with my besties after school everyday. We are now 52 and I would be terribly sad to see it go away.

I have watched General Hospital ever since I was 13. I am now 51 and watch faithfully. There are always ups and downs in ratings. That’s just the way it is. Keep this show going! I have a feeling that, with the recent changes, things are going to be so much better. : )

Their ratings are going to go thru the roof with Steve Burton back on the show, it’s going to be fanstatic, and we can’t wait.

ABC had better keep GH on after they axed All My Children and One Life to Live! I faithfully watch it every day. As far as I’m concerned , they don’t have much else worth watching anymore. The only other show I truly love of ABC’s is Designated Survivor!!!
