canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

General Hospital: 2018-19 Season Ratings (updated 10/8/19)

Published: October 8, 2019

General Hospital TV show on ABC: season 56 ratings (cancelled or renewed?)

(courtesy GH Facebook)

As has become the norm, ABC didn’t announce if General Hospital had been renewed for another year but the show wasn’t cancelled either. They just kept it on the air. The network did cancel The Chew (which replaced All My Children in 2011) so they could expand the Good Morning America brand with GMA Day. Clearly, the ABC execs aren’t afraid to shake up the status quo again. Will General Hospital survive to see a 57th season for the 2019-20 broadcast season? How will it do in the ratings? Stay tuned.

Debuting on April 1st of 1963, General Hospital revolves around the loves, lives, and deaths of the people of Port Charles, New York. The current season’s cast includes Maurice Benard, Tamara Braun, Steve Burton, Matt Cohen, William deVry, Chad Duell, Michael Easton, Hayley Erin, Genie Francis, Nancy Lee Grahn, Elizabeth Hendrickson, Briana Nicole Henry, Rebecca Herbst, Roger Howarth, Finola Hughes, Lisa LoCicero, Eden McCoy, Billy Miller, Kelly Monaco, Emme Rylan, Michelle Stafford, Kirsten Storms, Donnell Turner, Maura West, and Laura Wright.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available. You can see how the ratings for the four soap operas compare here.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

For comparisons: The 2017-18 season of General Hospital averaged a 0.61 rating in the 18-49 female demographic with 2.56 million total viewers.

How are your shows doing in the ratings? Check the current rankings:
A&E | ABC | AMC | Bravo | CBS | CMT | The CW | FOX | Freeform | FX | FXX
Hallmark | HBO | History | MTV | NBC | OWN | Showtime | Starz | Syfy | TBS
TNT | TV Land | USA Network | WGN America

What do you think? Do you still like General Hospital TV series? Would you like to see it cancelled or renewed for additional seasons?

It is time to end daytime soaps. General Hospital has been around far too long with repeated storylines and lame acting. It’s been over 50 years and the rating are not lying. Put this garbage out of its misery and create something new.

I’ve watched GH since grade school. I am now 54 years old. Sorry to say, I’m watching it less & less these days. The Shiloh BS and Michael’s baby crap, it’s just taking waaay too long. The Franco/Drew memories thing is my last straw. Completely stupid, even for a soap opera. I don’t even care if it gets cancelled! Heck, the ratings have been dropping too…USED to be the #1 soap. I’ve had my fill. Goodbye GH!

I’ve been faithfully watching GH since 1966! A lot has changed in society since then. Most young women are no longer stay at home moms tuning into the soaps in the afternoons. They DVR them (or stream them) & watch at their convenience. Using the Nielsen’s as a gauge of viewership is horribly skewed. Also targeting the 18-49s & ignoring those of us outside the demographic does it no justice either. We are consumers too! We don’t need another talk /court/who’s the baby daddy show on the air. Keep your loyal viewers happy & keep GH on the air!

Please do not cancel General Hospital. I watch it with my daughter & grandaughter & have been watching for many, many years! Many generations of families grow up watching shows like GH!

I have been watching GH since I was in the third grade. If I miss an episode, I stream it that night. I’m still not over the loss of One Life to Live and All My Children. If GH is cancelled, that will be it for me and ABC.

I miss one life to live and all my children as well. I began watching young and the restless and bold and the beautiful when those soaps went off the air. I love GH also and would be lost without my daily soaps.

Please don’t take General Hospital off the air. I’ve watched this show since I was a little girl. And I would be so upset. I’m just now getting over All My Children and One Life to Live being cancelled.

I’ve been watching GH since I was 11 years old… 42 yrs now. I can’t imagine life without it… it’s the one show I never miss. I see people complaining on Twitter… God forbid their character isn’t front & center. Those are the crazies… but most of us out here love our soap no matter what. As for ratings… they don’t matter! People work! Then they come home and fire up the DVR or watch online… they should get rid of Nielson ratings altogether. Not only should GH stay on ABC but they should bring back AMC and OLTL as… Read more »

I like gh but come on with keep change people minds, and the baby story is taking to long. Just give Michael his baby. Get rid of fake na na daughter found her real child
I am sorry Drew is leaving. I like Franco before you made him Drew. The story line is boring, I am sick of Kim she can leave since her son is gone I thought she was a doctor.to much of the teenager kids just move on with something else. I don’t like sholo, go away.
