canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

House of Payne: Are Friday’s the Last Episodes? [spoiler]

by Trevor Kimball, January 17, 2012

House of Payne last episodeIn one of last Friday’s episodes of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, titled “God Bless the Paynes,” Calvin (Lance Gross) was shot by the man who’d earlier harassed Miranda (Keshia Knight Pulliam). He’s rushed to the hospital but his fate is unknown.

We’ve received a few emails from readers who believe that next week’s episodes will be the end of the series and the death of Calvin. While House of Payne has been “cancelled,” there are a lot more episodes still to come.

In April 2011, TBS announced that they were ending the venerable sitcom, in part to make way for Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse. At that time, we understood the final episode total for House of Payne to be 220 installments.

In late September, Perry posted on his Facebook page that TBS had ordered 42 more episodes. In December, the cast and crew had a wrap party that celebrated the completion of 254 episodes. It’s unclear if they’ll be going back into production now that the holidays are over but, based on the numbers we have, it seems like they still have at least eight more installments to make.

In the meantime, we do know that this Friday’s episodes of House of Payne aren’t the last. Two new episodes will air each Friday night for the next six weeks. Episodes 223 and 224 will air on February 17th and that will leave about 30 episodes left in the series.

In the meantime, you should know that Calvin does not die from his gunshot wounds. He lives and, at least in the next couple episodes, has to worry about paying his hospital bills because he doesn’t have insurance.

What do you think? Are you a fan of House of Payne? Are you glad to know there are more episodes on the way?

I am glad to hear that calvin will not die and there are more episodes of the House of Payne to come. I don’t want to say goodbye to the Payne family they are too funny. I want to see more For Better or Worse what happen to the series. Please Try to take House of Payne to another station I don’t want them to go. That’ just my thought on the
situation.

I love House of Payne. It is one of the funniest shows on TV, I adore Tyler Perry and I try to see everything that is associated with him from plays to live stage performances to TV shows. The man is a GENIUS.

I am glad to hear that there are more episodes of the House of Payne. I hope it gets picked up by another network or TBS rethinks cancellation for them. In my opinion, they should cancel For Better of for Worse, it is just not catching on with me as I expected, I love Marcus and Tasha but the plot and theme of the show is just not working for me. It is just not as good as House of Payne, I’m just saying…

Yes, I am glad there are more episodes to come but in my opinion, continue House of Payne and cancel for Better or for Worse, it is just not as good as the House of Payne.

that is very good to hear. we do not have too many shows on television now that is for African Americans. We had those types of shows back in the 70’s, 80’s and then nothing. So yes i am glad along came Tyler Perry. We need as much support of these shows as possible

I think this is great! Honestly, I think House of Payne and Meet the Browns are the better series that Tyler Perry has made. I’m still feeling out the series For Better or Worse. But I have to say I’m lovin the Paynes and the Browns, but whatever you do don’t kill Calvin.

I LOVE House of Payne. I’m so glad Calvin is not killed off. TBS and Tyler Perry should really reconsider ending the show. I know the ratings are good. For Better or Worse was ok, but something was missing. Please either change networks or Tyler P. should try and get his own network. Whoever said the show has no growth, well there totally wrong, because one thing Tyler Perry has is great imagination.

That’s great news… I was wondering how they were going to end it like that.. Tyler usually doesn’t end his episodes, movies, even plays on a tragedy… maybe a season finale but since there isn’t supposed to be another season that would really be cruel!

Yes! OWN (Oprah’s network) would carry it. I agree. HOP is amazing. I like “For Better or Worse” but I agree that something was missing. For me it was the spirituality that was missing. If you watched the HOP referenced in the article you know that the show was the most spiritual I have ever seen in tv and more spiritual than most church services I’ve attended. Watching on Fridays is a little harder for us but we DVR it if we have to miss it live.
