canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

The Last Ship: Season Five to End the TNT Drama Series

by Cindy McLennan, May 16, 2018

Season five to end The Last Ship TV show on TNT: canceled, no season 6 (canceled or renewed?)

(Doug Hyun / TNT)

While no one is using the word “cancelled,” it’s now official. The Last Ship TV show on TNT will end with its upcoming fifth season.

Beginning in September of 2016, when TNT issued a (way) early season five renewal, it seemed likely The Last Ship would end with season five. Then, in September of 2017, when production wrapped, one of the cast referred to said wrap as a “series wrap” rather than a “season wrap,” which made cancellation, i.e. the show’s end, seem all but a done deal. Now, Turner Chief Creative Officer and President of TNT and TBS Kevin Reilly has confirmed the fifth season will be the series’ last, at today’s Upfront presentation advertisers.

A TNT post-apocalyptic drama The Last Ship stars Eric Dane, Bridget Regan, Adam Baldwin, Charles Parnell, Travis Van Winkle, Marissa Neitling, Christina Elmore, Jocko Sims, Bren Foster, and Kevin Michael Martin. The action centers on the crew of the USS Nathan James, which must try to find a cure for a deadly virus that has wiped out most of the world’s population and subsequently infects food crops.

The Last Ship: A Look at the Ratings

The fourth season of The Last Ship averaged a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.55 million viewers. Compared to season three, it was down by 38% and down by 30%, respectively. Find out how The Last Ship stacks up against other TNT TV shows.

What do you think? Are you a fan of The Last Ship TV series? Do you think the fifth season is a good time to end it? If it were up to you, would The Last Ship be cancelled or renewed for season six on TNT?

I’ve love “The Last Ship” and have watched every season. Like all good shows, there needs to be a conclusion or the ratings will continue to fall. Make it a memorable ending though.

I love The Last Ship and don’t feel it should be canceled. Why are all the good shows being canceled and the lousy reality ones, game shows and others keep going. I don’t want the fifth season to be the last

Please don’t end The LAST SHIP!! I really enjoy the cast and what goes on the Nathan James. I know shows have end sometime but I’m just not ready for the end. This is one program when the season ends you can’t wait for the next season to begin.

I agree with some of my fellow tv watchers postings, The “kill off” of Tex and Dr Scott; sort of “killed off” my interest of this show. I still ” stuck with it” and will definitely watch and buy this last season also! 🙂 But if nothing “big/major” happens, I think that season 5 could be a good way to ” End it “. Thank you to TNT , who are willing to give us an “ending/conclusion”, to this MARVELOUS SHOW! I have personally re-watched season 1-3 many times, since I own them on Amazon and DVD. They are AMAZING!… Read more »

it’s kind of a good thing, I don’t know where they’re going to go with season 5, even, because season 4, with the disease now killing plants, the delusional doc, I’m sorry, it wasn’t very good, it was a ‘habit watch,’ rather than a ‘wow, I can’t wait to see what happens next’ watch….here’s hoping, with the writers & producers knowing it would probably be the end, that they’ve given the show an interesting note to go out on, and a respectful (of the characters, and we viewers who’ve stuck with it) finale

Seasons 1 & 2 were strong, but once the story-line killed off Dr. Scott (who was the catalyst in the search for a cure), coupled with the demise of Tex, the ratings started to sink…fast. Had the story-lines deviated, while keeping the key characters obscured and the fans “guessing,” it would have garnered the much higher ratings and allure as the previous seasons. While we did not want to see a full blown romantic interlude with Dr. Scott, Capt, or Tex., the dynamic of the underlying respect, admiration and “like” certainly existed. The audience thrived on that! If only they… Read more »

The Last Ship is a great show and shouldn’t be ending. Much better than some of the other TBS/TNT fare.

No, it shouldn’t be ending. But why doesn’t this article tell us when Season 5 is starting. The article is pointless without that info.
