Perhaps they should have called it The Quick and the Dead. The The Living and the Dead TV show has been cancelled by The BBC. The first and only season of the spooky supernatural series is slated to premiere on BBC America sometime this fall. In UK, Ashley Pharoah’s six-episode drama aired on BBC One between June 28 and August 2, 2016. The British network has confirmed The Living and the Dead TV series will not be renewed for a second season, Digital Spy reports.
The Living and the Dead stars Colin Morgan and Charlotte Spencer as newlyweds Nathan and Charlotte Appleby, and Nicholas Woodeson as Reverend Matthew Denning. The cast also includes: Malcolm Storry, Kerrie Hayes, Tallulah Rose Haddon, Joel Gillman, Elizabeth Berrington, Chloe Pirrie, Amber Fernée, Marianne Oldham, Pooky Quesnel, Ben Fox, Sarah Counsell, and David Oakes.
About The Living and the Dead:
When his mother dies, Nathan Appleby and wife Charlotte return to the family estate in an attempt to revitalize the farm that is the lifeblood of the local community. The BBC says when Harriet (Tallulah Rose Haddon), “… a vulnerable teenage girl is brought to Nathan, seemingly possessed by a terrifying spirit, he cannot leave her to suffer.” Here is more from The BBC:
Nathan is a pioneering doctor who has worked at the forefront of the emerging science of psychology. He’s an expert in mapping the dark places of the mind. Nathan believes there is always a rational or scientific explanation to be found for life’s mysteries. So though Harriet’s case is disturbing, Nathan must use every psychological technique he has to find a way to cure her. But what if Nathan is wrong – what if it’s not an illness of the mind? Could Harriet actually be haunted?

UK readers have you watched the first and only season of The Living and the Dead TV series? Should it have been cancelled or renewed? US readers, do you plan to check out the series when it premieres on BBC America? Let us know, below.
I found this show ” the living and the dead” due to my appreciation of the actor; Colin Morgan. The six episodes were wonderful and filled with suspense and I was sorry to hear that it was not going to continue. There were many questions that were left unanswered and surely two more episodes could have tried to wrap things up. I hope BBC reconsiders
My family would love to see more of this series, especially after that tantalizing cliff hanger at the end. Please, please we have to know what happens next.
We just watched the entire first season today on dvd. It was phenomenal so we looked online about season 2 and were so disappointed that it was canceled. Big mistake BBC. Fine entertaining drama. I sincerely hope another network picks it up. Maybe Amazon like they did with Ripper Street, another excellent BBC axed show.
Extremely disappointed – it was a terrific show! Devoured the entire season one just to come find out there was no more. I could not believe it.
Absolutely gutted no series 2. Talk about being left up in the air!
Such an excellent show. They didn’t even give it a chance, cancelling before even an episode was released. Horrid.
I agree with Mirian. They leave the junk and take away the stuff that is actually good to watch. I was truly looking forward to the second season.
I am truly disappointed with the cancellation. Another great show gone…while all the crap TV stays…such a pity. Great story and amazing actors.
First cancelled show of the season?
Furious that this amazing show was cancelled. Why do all the good shows get cancelled but crap like the kardashians and bi brother just won’t go away. Big mistake BBC!!
Everybody sign up to petition.

Just lived the series. Please renew for a 2nd season please please
Another good show cancelled by BBC, first Merlin then Atlantis then the Musketeers and now the living and the dead, don’t BBC want viewers???? I don’t want to watch cookery programs and the rest of the rubbish BBC put on, too many good shows are cancelled these days leaving the crap to continue being shown. I am cancelling my tv licence as there is nothing worth watching on freeview now. Unfortunately the bosses of these channels who cancel shows don’t listen, don’t give the public what they want, they don’t even have a good reason to why they cancelled this… Read more »
I’m so sad! I didn’t know Musketeers had been cancelled :((((((
I can’t believe the BBC cancelled this drama, it was excellent and made a real change. A welcome return to good and interesting storytelling.
