Madam Secretary: Season Five Ordered for CBS Sunday Night Show

Madam Secretary TV show on CBS: season 5 renewal (canceled or renewed?)

(Jeff Neumann / CBS)

The Tiffany Network is still with her. CBS has renewed its Madam Secretary TV show for a fifth season. This was a real squeaker. With the series’ bottom-of-the-barrel demo performance, as well as its declining total audience size, since it already has a decent syndication package, the cancellation chances were very real.

CBS political drama, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Bebe Neuwirth, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.

Madam Secretary: A Look at the Ratings

The fourth season of Madam Secretary is averaging a 0.65 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.20 million viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 26% and down by 25%, respectively. When we sort the 25 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking, it ranks 24th in the demo (behind Saturday night’s Ransom) and rises to only 16th place, when sorted by average total viewership.
