canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Mom: Season Five Ordered by CBS for 2017-18 Season

by Trevor Kimball, March 23, 2017

Mom TV show on CBS: season 5As expected, the Mom TV show has been renewed for a fifth season on CBS. The Thursday night sitcom will return as part of the 2017-18 broadcast season.

On the Mom TV show, Christy (Anna Faris) is a single mom in recovery who’s returned to live with her single mother, Bonnie (Allison Janney), who’s also in recovery. Christy is tested daily as Bonnie tries to make up for all the ways she’s let her daughter down. Christy is further challenged by her relationships with her own kids, Violet (Sadie Calvano) and Roscoe (Blake Garrett Rosenthal), and Roscoe’s dad, a former slacker named Baxter (Matt Jones). To help her stay sober, Christy relies on her support system from AA which includes her sponsor Marjorie (Mimi Kennedy), wealthy sponsee Jill (Jaime Pressly), and her emotional friend, Wendy (Beth Hall). Christy tries to remain positive but it always seems like an uphill battle.

The fourth season is currently averaging a 1.49 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.55 million viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 14% in the demo and down by 5% in viewership. Compared to other series, that’s a reasonable season-to-season decline.

Mom is CBS’ sixth-highest rated scripted series and will be back for 2017-18.

What do you think? Do you like the Mom TV show on CBS? Are you glad that this series has been renewed for season five?

Mom is my favorite show! Thank you for renewing it. It tells the story of addicts so well and so real. It uses the kind of humor that real life recovering addicts and non-addicts can appreciate.

I love this show and am glad its been renewed. The hardships the gang go through as well as the meetings all help me, as I am also a former addict. This is a very good show.

Stupidest show ever! Whine, whine I’m a drunk .. whine, whine I have no money, etc. Crissy is so disrespectful and Bonnie looks like a man!

Absolutely the best sit-com on t.v. in decades!! It deals with very real serious issues related to addiction recovery, and dysfunctional family dynamics, while suggesting healthier alternatives. And, what guy wouldn’t like a sit-com with hot women acting like they actually enjoy sex and are comfortable talking freely and openly about sex. This is the only show I make a point to watch.

I find ‘Mom’ a fun show and would like to see it continue. We lost ‘Two Broke Girls’ and that was a hoot! My other fave is ‘The Big Bang Theory’. ‘Young Sheldon’, don’t care. Like ‘Man With A Plan’ and ‘Kevin Can Wait’. These are likely MY top comedies right now. ‘The Orville’ surprised me, I like it too. Keep ’em coming!

I love, love, love this show. I am new to the party and just this week, started watching from the beginning because the shows I watched in Season 4 were so excellent. Allison Janney and Anna Farris have superb on-screen chemistry. Their timing is the best I’ve seen in a long time. The writing is fantastic. I laugh out loud in every episode, unlike my responses to other sitcoms, which I just about never watch anymore. As for topic of recovery, I think it’s awesome that it is fully portrayed, with REAL LIFE that happens even after Sobriety. I crack… Read more »
