canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Shameless: Season Eight Renewal Up in the Air

by Jessica Pena, December 9, 2016

Shameless TV show on Showtime

The future of Shameless is a little uncertain at the moment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, negotiations for an eighth season of the Showtime TV series are at a standstill because star Emmy Rossum is demanding more pay.

Rossum plays lead Fiona Gallagher on the comedy-drama, which follows the ups and downs of a family living in Chicago’s gritty Southside neighborhood. The cast also includes William H. Macy, Jeremy Allen White, Cameron Monaghan, Emma Kenney, Shanola Hampton, and Steve Howey.

According to THR, Rossum is asking for at least a salary equal to that of co-lead William H. Macy if the show is renewed for an eighth season. Macy has reportedly already negotiated a major salary raise for season eight despite the fact his character, Frank Gallagher, has become more peripheral in recent seasons. The Emmy and Oscar-nominated actor has received a higher salary than his castmates for the past seven seasons.

Shameless remains one of Showtime’s top-rated series. So far, season seven has earned an average rating of .52 in the 18-49 demo and 1.369 million viewers. If Rossum’s demands are met, Warner Bros. TV will reportedly renegotiate the season eight salaries for the rest of the main cast.

What do you think? Do you watch Shameless? Do you want an eighth season? Do you think Rossum’s demands should be met?

This is a great show that I look forward to every week. I’d hate to see it go. Emmy Rossum IS the show and despite Macy’s experience. Emmy should indeed be equal to or higher paid than Macy. PLease meet her demands and bring back one of the best shows on TV!

I can tell you three things–
a) William H Macy, though a tremendous and talented actor, doesn’t even fill half the atmosphere on this show as Emmy Rossum does.
b) For a woman who has to so _thoroughly_ put it out there (not just her emotions, but her _body_ and CONTINUOUSLY), she SHOULD be getting paid as much as William H Macy (though, don’t think by saying that we need to see more of his saggy skin =P)
c) You lose Emmy Rossum, you lose your audience. That’s guaranteed. You can take THAT to the Chas Bank (down on Wabash)! ;D

Pay her! Emmy Rossum is the anchor / rock of the show. The “Frank” character, while a good one, anymore is a one trick pony and is only semi-needed for the story of the Gallagher clan to continue. The show has always been mostly about “Fiona” and how she deals with everything going on with her co-stars.
This is a very talented ensemble cast and Emmy Rossum deserves to be well rewarded for her extremely realistic portrayal of Fiona.

Pay her – this show could go on indefinitely. To cancel this show because you don’t want to pay her for her excellent work is beyond ridiculous. This is the BEST show around – has been from the beginning, and has continued to be all the way through. The stories are unending – PAY HER. She is definitely worth it.

Pay her. I can’t believe anyone was payed more than her given the amount of emotional scenes and nudity her screen time has been full of. I’ve always seen her as the main character.

She is absolutely worth every dollar Macy is being paid. She has the biggest workload and is actually the central character of this outstanding show. Give her her due. It is about time Hollywood stopped this gender gap

Pay her the money. She has done all the heavy lifting the past three seasons and was always at least secondary in screen time. There is at least one more season and probably two that could be undertaken before wrapping the finale.

Only disagreement here is that I believe there are many more seasons in the bag for this show!
