The Last Man on Earth: Season Two Renewal for FOX Sitcom

by Trevor Kimball, April 8, 2015

Last man on Earth TV show on FOX: season 2 renewalThe ratings have down quite a bit but FOX wants more of The Last Man on Earth. The network has renewed their new Sunday night sitcom for a second season.

Here’s the press release:

FOX RENEWS “THE LAST MAN ON EARTH” FOR A SECOND SEASON

All-New Episode Airs This Sunday, April 12, on FOX

FOX has picked up comedy series THE LAST MAN ON EARTH for a second season, it was announced today by David Madden, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“We knew we had something special with THE LAST MAN ON EARTH. It’s one of those rare shows that continues to add depth and dimension to its unique premise, week after week,” said Madden. “We are so thrilled that this incredibly bold, original and inventive series has been embraced by both fans and critics, and we cannot wait to see where the creative genius and inspired vision of Will, Phil and Chris take us in Season Two.”

In the next all-new, special one-hour episode of THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, “The Do-Over/Pranks for Nothin’,” airing Sunday, April 12 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, Phil Miller (Will Forte) finally has some good fortune headed his way.

THE LAST MAN ON EARTH is this season’s No. 1 new comedy among Adults 18-34 and Men 18-49. It also ranks No. 1 in its Sunday (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) time period among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.

From writer/producer Will Forte (“Nebraska,” “Saturday Night Live”) and directors/producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord (“The Lego Movie,” “21 Jump Street”), THE LAST MAN ON EARTH chronicles the life and adventures of Phil Miller (Forte), an average guy – and humanity’s last hope – who discovers what life is like when no one is telling you what you can and cannot do. The series also stars Kristen Schaal, January Jones and Mel Rodriguez.

THE LAST MAN ON EARTH is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. The series is created and written by Will Forte. The pilot is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The series is executive-produced by Forte, Lord, Miller and Seth Cohen. “Like” THE LAST MAN ON EARTH on Facebook at facebook.com/TheLastManOnEarthFOX. YES, YES, YES!!! Yeay, Woot Woot, High Five and Happy Dance!!! We are so excited that Last Man on Earth is coming back!!! We really look forward to watching this show on Sunday nights. My husband couldn’t wait to get home to tell me that he had learned that Last Man on Earth was coming back to the Fall line-up. Thanks Guys

P.S. We don’t even care that there are not dead people everywhere, although that was a great observation by Laura B.

Thanks, glad it was renewed. Please allow Phil to act a bit older than a 10 yr old though. It was the 1 irritating thing about his character. Example…getting mad at Carol for painting in a cat of a priceless art piece then allowing him to pitch paint bombs on his front foyer wall and another painting.

TO FOX EXECS—THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU (AD INFINITUM).

TO WILL FORTE AND THE CAST:
THIS SHOW IS SO DAM BRILLIANT, SO DAM FUNNY, SO DAM RIGHT-ON RE THE HUMAN RACE, WELL, I remain yours in AWE.

You need to run the whole thing again several times and give people a chance to get totally hooked. This show had such SUPERB competition its amazing I ever found it, but Will is a comic wonder so I followed him to the funniest show ever made! Yeah, for real.

Love the Last Man on Earth, can’t wait for season 2. My only gripe is I wish they were hour long episodes. By far the most creative show on tv.

so brilliant, so absolutely brilliant, and the timing of the dialogue delivery is something not often seen, or done, by mere mortals. But then I am one of the worst addicted humor junkies on earth, with so little truly funny comedy anywhere—EXCEPT ON IFC!
Comedy Bang Bang, Portlandia, one or two others, but Last Man is brilliant to the 10th power. I literally explode into howling laughter that probably scares the neighbors if they hear it….

The last few episodes were frustrating. He never catches any breaks & every1 is mean 2 him. And why does Carol correct Tandy’s speech but not Phil’s? The ending was great! I’m glad it got renewed but plz don’t punish the central character every episode!

The biggest flaw is that there are not dead bodies everywhere. Who cleaned up? I do enjoy watching this though, because you can be totally brainless and not have to think. haha

EXACTLY! I have been wondering that myself. What kind of catastrophe would leave all the roads and highways free of cars, and the world free of dead bodies?? And where are the animals? All we’ve seen is one cow. I for one want to know what the hell happened. That mystery is the very worst thing about this show.
