The Walking Dead: Season 11 Renewal Announced for AMC TV Series

by Jessica Pena, October 5, 2019

The Walking Dead TV show on AMC: (canceled or renewed?)

The Walking Dead will live on! AMC just announced they’ve renewed the TV show for an 11th season ahead of the season 10 premiere.

The hit zombie apocalypse drama stars Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, and Ross Marquand.

Even though ratings have dipped for The Walking Dead over the years, the show still remains AMC’s most popular series. Season nine, which wrapped in March, averaged a 1.88 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.950 million viewers.

Season 10 of The Walking Dead premieres on AMC tomorrow, October 6th, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

See the renewal announcement below:

NEW YORK, NY – October 5, 2019 – Today, in front of more than five thousand New York Comic Con fans, AMC confirmed the renewal of The Walking Dead for an eleventh season and the return of Lauren Cohan, who plays fan favorite character Maggie Greene, as a season 11 series regular. The Walking Dead executive producers Scott M. Gimple and Angela Kang announced the news at the show’s annual NYCC panel, surprising fans by bringing out Cohan to join the show’s executive producers and cast on stage. The series’ renewal comes one day ahead of the show’s season 10 premiere on Sunday, October 6 at 9pm/8c.

Over ten seasons, The Walking Dead remains the highest-rated series on ad-supported cable television and has given life to an expanding Universe that now includes the companion series Fear the Walking Dead, a new third series from Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple and TWD veteran writer and producer Matt Negrete, as well as an untitled The Walking Dead Movie, starring Andrew Lincoln, with Universal and Skybound Entertainment.

“The Walking Dead burst out of the gate ten years ago as a genre show that had all the character depth of a top-tier prestige drama,” said Sarah Barnett, President of AMC Networks Entertainment Group & AMC Studios. “And now ten years later – led by the brilliant Angela Kang and fueled by one of the most consistently talented casts in television – this phenomenon is flourishing creatively, with critics and audiences embracing its reset. We’re delighted to welcome back Lauren Cohan, she has meant so much to this show and its passionate, global fanbase, who are in for a fantastic ride over the coming months.”

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, The Walking Dead tells the story of the months and years after a zombie apocalypse and follows a group of survivors who travel in search of a safe and secure home. The series is executive produced by Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple, Showrunner Angela Kang, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert, Greg Nicotero, Joseph Incaprera and Denise Huth. The series stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Danai Gurira, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Seth Gilliam, Avi Nash, Callan McAuliffe, Cooper Andrews, Eleanor Matsuura, Nadia Hilker, Cailey Fleming, Samantha Morton, Ryan Hurst, Cassady McClincy and Lauren Ridloff.”

What do you think? Are you a big fan of The Walking Dead? Are you glad it’s coming back?

Time to end this show. After 10yrs surely the human race would be functioning much better, pity the writer only sees death and destruction. It is like being back in the middle ages, thus totally ignoring how far we have all come.
Where the hell are all the zombies coming from the camps are in isolated places which would have been low population areas. Time to get realistic.

I love the walking dead and I am NOT a fan of zombie movies. This show is unique, no one can match it. I am not happy about Carl, Rick and Jesus deaths bit they are still the only show I watch religiously. ..it will be sad when the time comes for it to end but its changed so much. I still can watch all seasons on DVR.

Still like The Walking Dead but it is not the same. Without Rick and even some of the other original cast members killed, the “feel” of the show changed. I get the “shock factor” but is the characters and their interactions that make a great show. The interactions between Glenn and Dale were classic! I understand that both characters asked to be released but did they have to methodically eliminate ninety percent of the original characters? After this season (season 10) we will be down to Carol and Daryl. Possibly Maggie returns part time? To me, use more Neagan!! His… Read more »
