While The Young Pope TV show will not been renewed for a second season on HBO, it isn’t exactly cancelled either. Instead, THR reports HBO has ordered The New Pope — a follow-up to The Young Pope — from creator and director Paolo Sorrentino.
The Young Pope told the story of Lenny Belardo’s (Jude Law) ascension as Pope Pius XIII. The HBO TV series cast also includes Diane Keaton, Silvio Orlando, Javier Cámara, Scott Shepherd, Cécile de France, Ludivine Sagnier, Toni Bertorelli, and James Cromwell. There is no word yet, on who will return for The New Pope TV series.
Back in October of 2016, we reported Sorrentino was already working on a second installment.
According to THR, The New Pope production is casting for the title role, and production is slated for late next year, in Italy.

I really enjoyed the Young Pope, especially Jude Law and Diane Keaton. It was really disappointing that he may have been killed off. Would love to see him brought back. But it’s also really interesting to see if there is a New Pope, and who that might be.
Show has to continue with Jude Law as Pope. His character was superb as was his acting….PLEASE bring him back!!!
This show made me laugh, cry, and be taken aback. Jude Law is fantastic as the young pope. Also a great acting job by Diane Keaton. I can’t wait for season 2. I will be watching this series again and again. Great job
Loved this show. Being a Catholic, I found Jude Law an excellent choice for the young Pope, his performance was outstanding. Let’s hope he returns for whatever they are doing to being the show back.
All of the characters were excellent casting. Even the kangaroo! (God Bless his soul)
Very disappointed that The Young Pope is being cancelled! Loved this series, Jude Law was a perfect fit for the role of the young Pope. I will definitely be watching for updates! So many unanswered questions!!! Eeeek!
We really like this series and cannot believe the original will not continue. It is so thought provoking and Jude Law and cast excellent. It is intelligent and so well done. Oh…I forget….good tv doesn’t usually do well in todays demographic…what was I thinking?!? Bah…
I loved the Young Pope, Acting was great and I found it humorous at times.
As for Watching the new one Hmm, maybe.
Jude law was magnificent….. the show from from top to bottom was A+++++!!! Definitely excited to hear about a 2nd version

Loved Jude Law and the entire cast of The Young Pope! Amazing script! Beautiful scenery! Inspiring story! Looking forward to am equally creative spinoff.! Going to Italy in September to see.if I will run into the Young Pope, or his Holy Spirit!!
I loved this series. It was well written and definitely well acted. Jude Law was terrific. I am sorry to see it not renewed.
I loved the show but the ending was perfect and to bring Jude Law back would be stretching it a bit, I think. However, it will be interesting to see how The New Pope responds to the actions of his (or her) predecessor, and the new doctrine that he attempted to establish. Kinda gives the plot a chance to show how the Church has acted throughout the ages…

I agree, Jude Law made the show, I wouldn’t watch if he weren’t playing the Pope.
I won’t be watching the new show. I’ve got no interest in what will now most likely be a dumbed down version of the original. I expect that’s why the decision was made to do this so-called “spin off.” This is why I don’t watch much television. One way or another if something really good comes on it never lasts.
Excellent series. Thought provoking, timely and creative writing. I definitely will watch the continuation of the series and anxiously await its return.
