Close Up with The Hollywood Reporter: Season Three Renewal from SundanceTV

by Regina Avalos, May 1, 2017

Close Up with The Hollywood Reporter has been renewed for a third season after receiving a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, season three of the SundanceTV series will feature 14 episodes, and the series will be divided into two focuses. Half of the season will feature roundtable discussions with stars from television, and the second half of the season will feature big names from the film industry.

SundanceTV shared a press released detailing the return of the series. Check that out below.

SundanceTV announced today the renewal of its original non-fiction series “Close Up With The Hollywood Reporter,” produced in partnership with The Hollywood Reporter. Recently nominated for a Daytime Emmy(R) Award in the outstanding special-class series category, “Close Up With The Hollywood Reporter” will begin airing its third season on SundanceTV in the fall. The upcoming season, comprised of 14 one-hour episodes, will be divided into two parts: the first featuring candid roundtable discussions with notables from the television community, and the second, focusing on some of the most talented actors, actresses, directors, writers and producers from the film industry.

Last season of “Close Up With The Hollywood Reporter'” included passionate and honest discussions with well-known talent and award nominees from the year’s most acclaimed films and television series. Guests including Oscar(R) winners Emma Stone, Mahershala Ali, Casey Affleck, Barry Jenkins, Damien Chazelle, as well as such notables as Taraji P. Henson, Justin Timberlake, Naomie Harris and Mel Gibson discussed everything from diversity on and off-screen, what influences characters and scripts, mastering difficult locations and reluctant subjects and the process of bringing these films to an audience.

“We’re ecstatic to continue our partnership with The Hollywood Reporter to bring ‘Close Up’ to SundanceTV for a third season,” said Jan Diedrichsen, General Manager, SundanceTV. “The show is a fascinating peek behind the curtain and we look forward to introducing a new group of candid roundtables from some of today’s most acclaimed individuals in television and film for the newest season.”

“We’re thrilled “Close Up” is returning to SundanceTV for another year of A-list guests and intimate conversations viewers can’t see anywhere else,” said Matthew Belloni, Editorial Director of The Hollywood Reporter. “The recent Daytime Emmy(R) Award nomination is a testament to the way this unique and powerful series has resonated with audiences.”

The Hollywood Reporter is well known for hosting influential roundtable conversations with industry insiders, garnering its own Los Angeles area Emmy(R) Award for a roundtable conversation titled The Hollywood Reporter in Focus: The Wolf of Wall Street, which featured Martin Scorsese, Terence Winter, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill.

“Close Up With The Hollywood Reporter” represents a continued commitment by SundanceTV to innovative, informative unscripted programming that sheds light on the world of filmed storytelling and pop culture.

The series is executive produced by Janice Min, Matthew Belloni, Stephen Galloway, Jennifer Laski and Lacey Rose from The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Haddad from SundanceTV and produced by Stephanie Fischette from The Hollywood Reporter.

Close Up with The Hollywood Reporter will premiere its third season this fall. Are you a fan of this series? Tell us what you think.
