Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?
Code black should be renewed because it’s a story of life, and the cast is FANTASTIC. Please keep the show going.
I am a huge fan of Code Black and I have been very sad that they cancelled it. Very disappointed! I know a lot of people who watch it and feel as I do. Please, please, please bring it back!
CODE BLACK is one of the best shows on TV. It made you laugh, cry, think, and hope. Why is it when we get a great show and it’s canceled in the 3rd season because of ratings. Today new shows have much more competition than ever before and getting the ratings takes longer. KEEP CODE BLACK ON THE AIR.
I loved be this show. It’s probably my favorite show on TV right now. So upset that it’s canceled…I could watch not only a season 4 but many more years!!!
Please bring it back. Code Black is one of my favorite shows! I love the synergy of the characters they feel like family. ❤️
Please bring back Code Black it is my favorite show
Please please do not end a good show. I love the show and looked forward to seeing it on Wednesday nights.
This may just be the best thing on tv since St. Elsewhere. You have to bring it back.
We love Code Black and felt it was unfortunate that it’s time slot was often pre-empted because of Thursday night football or special presentation shows. Code Black has some of the best actors, captivating story lines and mature messages of hope in the face of disaster and illnesses. Keep it on!!!
I Loved the characters their development and struggles. I want to continue to see them grow through their challenges in the next season.
I love the characters, how they have grown over the three seasons, and want to continue to experience their struggles as they become more of who they can be.
This ranks up there with “this is us” please don’t let it end
I really enjoyed Code Black. I felt each year it got better and better. I would enjoy another season or 2.
Please continue with Code Black! It is the most drama packed, powerfully messaged, and tear jerking show ever. My entire family watch together…..my husband, daughter, and grandson. The actors and actresses pour their hearts out on this show and we all are sitting on the edge of our seats with a box of Kleenex every week….never missed a single episode no matter what else we had going on in our lives. Code Black is a huge part of our lives, just like family. If this show is cancelled for good, I will feel like apart of our family has past… Read more »
This is my Favorite show. Cast is fantastic and they feel more real than most shows. Interesting character relationships and their background lives provide a perfect break from the intense drama in the hospital. Would Love to see this show continue!
