Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?
I love Code Black and I am bummed that it was cancelled! I don’t understand why they keep cancelling great shows!! I would love it if someone picked it up.
Love code black just getting to know the characters
Love it, can’t believe they kept Elementary a really boring show over Code black
Code Black is one of the best shows I’ve seen in decades. Its cast rivals & exceeds that of Blue Bloods. Please do not let this show be cancelled. I am looking forward to a 4th, 5th, and even 6th season.
It’s a shame when a quality show like this gets canceled while poop like Fresh Off the Boat, Survivor and The Bachelorette survives.
Please keep Code Black. The best show!
Bring it back. Good casting, great story lines, empathetic characters. Something we enjoyed and looked forward to every week.
I absolutely loved this show! It made me cry, made me laugh, made me think. I would definitely watch new shows no matter where. Please don’t let this be the end!
I love Code Black too and really hate the decision to cancel it. I don’t understand how they can tell the ratings aren’t up. Not all of us have cable or satellite. We get our local channels via antenna. I know many who can’t be counted because there’s no way to track what they watch. Am hoping CBS will see all these upset posts and rethink Code Black’s fate.
This is one of the best shows on TV. There is no way it should end. I’m hoping another network will pick it up. Great actors, great writers, interesting plots, fast paced. PLEASE RENEW.
Absolutely love the show!! Please keep it going…I’ll watch season 4 and any season after…I think your making a big mistake taking it off air!!!!
LOVE the show. It’s one of the few we watch. Don’t cancel it please.
Not happy with them taking away good shows and replacing them with not so good shows. Would love to see Season 4 transpire. Please someone pick up this show so that it can comtinue!!!
I loved the show.
One of the best shows right now!
One of my favorite shows. Would love to see it back on air.
