What’s next for The Exorcist? Recently, creator Jeremy Slater spoke with Variety about the future of the FOX TV series.
Based on the classic horror film, the drama follows two priests who team together to solve a terrifying case of demonic possession. The cast includes Ben Daniels, Alfonso Herrera, Kurt Egyiawan, Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Brianne Howey, and Hannah Kasulka.
In the interview, Slater said he has plans for more seasons:
The idea of doing a serialized show where every single year is just another possession and next season, we’re moving one block down and a different family is having this happen to them — your eyes would glaze over so fast. I don’t know how to write that show and I don’t know who would want to watch that show. In this first year we’re giving the audience something recognizable and relatable, but hopefully by the time a few episodes have gone by, you’ll start to understand how we’re creating an engine that can run for several years.”
He revealed that he plans on having characters return for a possible second season:
It could be. The goal is not to tell an anthology story, because I don’t think this is “American Horror Story.” The characters who survive this first season and still have story left to tell, you will absolutely see them again going into Season 2. I think our two priests, Marcus and Tomas, are probably going to be the spine of the show going forward. But the idea is to aggressively tell a new story every single season.”
FOX has not announced whether The Exorcist will have a second season or not. However, the outlook is dim. So far, season one has earned an average rating of .74 in the 18-49 demo and 2.125 million viewers.

Please keep the series. I think it is well written and a suspenseful show. Fox keeps cancelling the shows I look forward to watching. The Following was the last one they cancelled that disappointed me.

I know its been 10 years but I am still not over Arrested Development. I agree, its frustrating when they cancel the good shows. I really hope they keep this arround (am watching it right now!) 🙂
I love this show. Read the Exorcist and saw the original movie and it has left a lasting impression. The show is well-paced, intriguing and definitely a great horror genre show. I would be so disappointed if it weren’t continued. Lots of good shows stumbled a bit in their first season (Seinfeld, for example) only to pick up an maintain momentum. The acting and story line are really good, and each episode is better than the previous one. Please renew!
I live in South Africa and wait anxiously every week to watch the Exorcist. This show is awesome. Please do not cancel. I am sure DSTV will defenitely snatch this series up for their south african and African viewers. Fox Network, The Exorcist ROCKS!!!!
It’s very enthralling . A compliment and welcomed twist on the franchise . It Somehow encapsulates the feeling of the novel’s and films and gives a few nods to the boom of recent television horror series’ that have never been better . Classic doesn’t always mean quality . The past decade or so certainly has been time for the television horror series genre to shine and it would have a terrible thing if this franchise and series didn’t come to the screen .
I was rather skeptical at first but actually I have found the show rather entertaining. If FOX doesn’t renew perhaps the show can find a home on Netflix or HULU to continue.
Absolutely fantastic show
Excellent show. The acting, writing, direction and the pacing are just incredible, especially for a Friday night broadcast television show. It’s truly something original and great, even if based off the original movie. It deserves much better than to be relegated to FOX on Friday nights. I can only imagine what they could do w it if Netflix or a cable network picked it up; it’s prestige TV in my book and deserves to be treated as such.

I LOVE THIS SHOW !!! Best thing on TV right now IMO. I can’t believe I’ve found a well acted intriguing show that I look forward to and there is already talk of it being cancelled? No!!!!

I love this series!! Offers at least something for us horror movie lovers since all we seem to have other than this is American Horror Story. Please don’t cancel!!
This is a very well done series. We just started watching and are catching up quickly, but are quite impressed. It’s not for the faint-hearted, but I hope others like us who enjoy this kind of thing discover this show. Sometimes a slow starter can become a great success, like the CW’s Supernatural.
I love this show! Ben Daniels is an amazing actor and his character makes the show.
