You’ve got the wrong prince, MTV. According to CinemaBlend, MTV accidentally played a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air music video during a tribute to Prince.
The multitalented musician died yesterday at the age of 57.
The Fresh Prince theme showed up in the middle of Prince music video marathon that MTV began airing when news of his death was confirmed. And while the two have a word in common, that’s about it. It seems MTV got their wires crossed and mistook TV royalty for rock/pop/funk royalty.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, of course, starred Will Smith as a teenager who moves from West Philadelphia to his aunt and uncle’s mansion in Bel-Air. The NBC series ran from 1990 to 1996.
