Despite pretty low ratings in the prized 18-49 demographic, CBS has kept Madam Secretary on the air. How will it do in season three? Will the numbers go up or down? Will the series be cancelled or is it essentially guaranteed to be renewed to make sure it has enough episodes for syndication? Stay tuned.
On Madam Secretary, Elizabeth McCord (Tèa Leoni) is the shrewd and determined Secretary of State who drives international diplomacy. She battles office politics and circumvents protocol as she negotiates global and domestic issues, both at the White House and at home. The cast also includes Tim Daly, Željko Ivanek, Bebe Neuwirth, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Wallis Currie-Wood, Kathrine Herzer, and Evan Roe.
The ratings are typically the best sign of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/23 update: Madam Secretary has been renewed for season four on CBS. Details here.
5/22 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Madam Secretary averaged a 1.20 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.10 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Madam Secretary TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for season four on CBS?
My husband and I love this show please keep it going. One of the best shows we have seen in a long while.
What’s not to like about an intelligent, thought provoking, educated, adult series ? (which is VERY hard to fine on television these days). YES, I enjoy Madam Secretary and look forward to this stimulating 45 minutes on Sunday nights instead of the prevalent, banality we ignore most evenings. Though, I must admit, this season’s television choices have given me much more time for reading !
Love the show!!!! It is entertaining with great characters!
Love love the show, but “Elizabeth’s new hair do”?
Love this show – can’t wait until Sun, but “her new hair do”?
Discovered the show by accident a coupl5
Of years ago. I love it
I love this show. Will be very disappointed if it is cancelled. I think Tia and Tim are a great pairing.
I love the program will miss Bebe Newirthe very much.
Show is on too late for me to watch…wish it was back to 9:00. Soooooo tired of NCIS ‘whatever’. How many of them can they make. Soooo I tape it and watch it during the week. Not sure that counts for the ratings… but I hope they keep this show. It and Bull are the only things I watch anymore on CBS.
It’s the only series I like to watch on any station. My husband and I both look forward to it.
Love the show. Don’t watch much else on TV. Huge fan of Daly.
I LOVE Madame Secretary! I can’t believe you would even consider cancelling this series!!
Please keep Madam Secretary for at least 2 more seasons. It is at least the only intelligent entertainment CBS has!
Please bring back Madam Secretary- why were you changing dates and times. Could not keep up when it aired.
I MISS THE SHOW!
DON’T LIKE CANDY CRUSH, that animal show by author Patterson, and all others you put before my SUNDAY LINEUP.
So well written, timely issues discussed…refreshing to see a show with substance.
Pretty valuable expose of the quid pro quo style of solving issues in foreign affairs. I would hate to experience a CBS cancellation because I don’t think there is anything better out there.
