The sixth and final season of Major Crimes begins tonight, October 31st, but will it for sure be the end? Recently, creator James Duff spoke with TVLine about what to expect from the TV show’s final season.
As reported earlier, TNT has cancelled the crime drama after six seasons. The series follows the further investigations of the detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes division. Stars include Mary McDonnell, Tony Denison, GW Bailey, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Robert Gossett, Phillip P. Keene, Graham Patrick Martin, Kearran Giovanni, and Jonathan Del Arco.
In the interview, Duff revealed the Major Crimes series finale does leave the door open for more:
Since I didn’t actually know for sure it was the [series] finale, there is an open door… It’s sort of a defiant ending, I would say, but an honest, truthful ending.”
As for the rest of the season, Duff mentioned this season contains some of the cast’s best performances yet:
I gave Mary [McDonnell] something extraordinary to play, because she wanted to do something special. She has been one of my partners throughout this process, so we decided on something interesting and different for her to play.”
We increased the size of G.W. [Bailey]’s role [as Provenza]. It is an interesting story that we’re telling [with Sharon], and Mary does an amazing job — her best work in the series is this season, and so is G.W.’s. A lot of the characters turn in spectacular performances.”
The sixth and final season of Major Crimes premieres tonight, October 31st, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on TNT.

My husband & I have been watching all the reruns as we didn’t know it was on. We love it!!!!! It has become one of our favorite shows!!!! Please bring it back with Sharon in it somehow!!!!
My wife and I have watched each week all episodes of Major Crimes during the six year tenure. We certainly will miss this series and hope that it can be resurrected with the same cast of characters. The program had a nice fix of characters that meshed together with a story line which brought us back each week for more.
This was only one of a few of series that my wife and I would watch together.
We mourn this decision!
I’m truly stunned that such an excellent show is being canceled! My husband & I have been faithful viewers since The Closer. What kind of idiots made this decision? Great story lines, incredible cast, and sounds like there is a large following. I may not have any knowledge about television production, but I know what I like: MAJOR CRIMES. Please don’t cancel, or please, please, some other network pic it up.
I hope this season that you report that it has been picked up by another network. That is the only thing I am on the edge of my seat for. Who cancels a show that is #2 cable scripted and 10 million viewers? I see Other networks cancelling shows with ratings similar to those TNT is bragging about with their new direction shows.
Major Crimes is an icon for do many years worldwide. You’ve only to be a fool to end it. After all these years it has become a tv family a big worldwide fandom. 10 million viewers so we’re do they have to go??? James A Duff has more stories to tell and with new people to the team I’m sure younger people are crazy about too. but Mary is the real deal an extraordinary actress and sound the rest of the team!

see it. i don’t know what att did.
How many people would it take to keep Major Crimes on the air and to make a season 7 and keep going. If you look back in the years of cop stories on TV this is one of the best if not the BEST DONT CANCEL this show
This is one of my favorite shows, and I sincerely hope another outlet will pick up this thoughtful well done series.
PLEASE don’t cancel this wonderful show that I am so invested in! I love the characters, and actors mesh together so well. Know them all from The Closer. Loved that too!
Wow way to ruin a show I have truly loved. The producer said he decided to go ugly and go political in this last season. When I saw the cliche redneck Dad, with total cliche hackneyed lines, I was out. In Los Angeles no less? Wow way to be a total jerk writers and producers.
Great show. Love the characters and the story lines. Lot of friends watch the show and we are all really disappointed that the show has been cancelled. Hope that another station picks it up. Please let it continue.
No!! You can’t end the series!! I’ve watched every season, every show!!
Can’t wait to watch but don’t want to watch! Watching will mean I’m starting “the beginning of the end “. I’m so bummed that this show is ending. OF COURSE the episodes are going to be extra special – all of them ARE! From day 1 this show has exceeded my expectations.! ❤️☹️
Looking forward to the extra ‘oomph’ planned for us in the finale. Absolutely hope that the ‘open door’ results in a change of heart with regard to canceling.
I love Major Crimes. Closer and Major Crimes best shows to hit the air-waves. I really hope there will be plenty more seasons.
