This season, for the first time, The CW will be programming all seven nights each week so the network will have room for more TV shows than ever before. How will that move affect how many shows on The CW will be cancelled or renewed during the 2021-22 season? Stay tuned.
There’s lots of data that network execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These 2021-22 charts will be updated daily, as new ratings data becomes available.
CW shows this season (so far): 4400, All American, All-American: Homecoming, Batwoman, Bump, Charmed, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Devils, Dynasty, The Flash, Great Chocolate Showdown, In the Dark, Killer Camp, Kung Fu, Legacies, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Leonardo, March, Masters of Illusion, Mysteries Decoded, Nancy Drew, Naomi, Riverdale, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Roswell New Mexico, Superman & Lois, Tom Swift, Two Sentence Horror Stories, Walker, Wellington Paranormal, Whose Line Is It Anyway? World’s Funniest Animals, and Would I Lie To You?.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page or view them here and here.
Some notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same-day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Older viewers also matter but younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are therefore harder to reach. Delayed viewing matters more and more these days (if commercials are watched) but live viewing is still advertisers’ ideal.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which 2021-22 shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?
I am sadden by the cancelation of Batwoman series. I watched the series from the beginning til this past season ended. The cast members should be proud of the great work they have done pulling us into a fictional world that had Lead characters that look like Me.
Hallmark channel pulls better ratings than CW does. That is seriously sad, as the ratings when the Arrowverse started were decent.
There are rumors going around that there the be rebooting the series Buffy the vampire slayer and Zendaya as the new Buffy i think the series will be about the generation of a vampire slayer. And if rumors are true then i hope the series will air on the CW or on Fox or some other channel and i hope i would get to watch it on Hulu. And what do you know about the reboot of Buffy the vampire slayer the reboot. I hope the show will be more about the next generation of a vampire slayer..
The flash look forward every week so good since 2013 . Enjoy it and love it all episodes . Never missed any episode of it . Please boost your number ratings .
Flash really needs to end. They are destroying everything horribly. Season 8 literally destroyed whole Reverse Flash character including this awful costume even worse than current flash. It looks so cheap. I prefer that “rotten banana” colored costume. His motivation was about his typical childish anger: “i wasn’t in centre of attention so gonna murder his mum to gain attention”. Even Eric Wallace said he is not interest anymore in Barry Allen storylines decentrising him again. So he made it on purpose where Flash isn’t anymore about Barry Allen but maybe 5 % but rest is Iris, Joe, Cecile, Chester,… Read more »
I love Legacies so much, it’s a great show and a captivating storyline. I just went to the CW app to watch the latest episode that had said previously it was airing January 28th, 2022 but much to my disappointment, it’s now due for end of February. I would be so sad to see this show get cancelled when there’s still so much to do with it!
Dynasty so good look forward new episodes and new season enjoy it and love it. Never missed any episodes of it.
Cancelled Riverdale, Walker awful drama. Need get rid of these shows including Charmed syfy stupid series. Please reconsider it in cancelled.
IF there were three or four more new shows i would want it to be green lantern the flash legacy. And the legion of superhero and have those shows do a crossover with each other. Like Batwoman Superman the flash legacy and the legion of superhero and have all those do a crossover with each other.
The flash look forward new episodes please boost your ratings look forward to seeing it every Tuesday night superhero drama so good never missed any episodes of it all of these years.
So many flops this season too. Even All American is hemorrhaging viewers.
Not necessarily, same night ratings are not as important these days. Viewing habits have changed. More and more people are watching in their on time via network apps, or waiting for episodes to accumulate to binge or be available on streaming platform. All networks same day ratings are way down in comparison to a few years ago. Some of the shows on networks like CW will get renewals because their performance is so goo once they go to streaming platforms, esp ones with worldwide audiences.
Those with worldwide audiences are ending or about to. And if I recall well, they add the streaming services numbers later. So it all comes down to the same observation I made.
Not true, but I can see from your response that you just want to make a sweeping statement without facts. Superman & Lois performs well on HBO Max (charts released from multiple regions show it consistently within top 5), which has launched in multiple regions. The shows that have been renewed perform well in L+7 figures and via the app viewing. In addition to that they pick up viewers when sent to streaming platforms (HBO Max or Netflix) and also regions like UK, France, Australia and I’m sure some others) air some of the shows via traditional cable stations. All… Read more »
Also kind of funny to call AA “hemorrhaging viewers” when that seems more like a read educated by twitter fandom noise than anything. AA has comfortably stayed near the top with S&L all year. Hemorrhaging viewers is like. what happened to walker season 1 over 6 episodes. Extremely dramatic way to describe AA’s current status. Late spring decline?? Say it aint so!!
Why doesn’t this include ratings for Stargirl or Supergirl?
Most of their current seasons ran during the 2020-21 broadcast season so their numbers are on that chart.

Networks don’t typically air shows across seasons but the pandemic has thrown things off.
Patiently waiting for Superman and Lois season 2!
Dynasty look forward new season in the springtime such a great soap opera drama, enjoy it and love it.
Is there the be any Flash spin off coming this year or next year. Because I would love it if there were a all new flash spin off. And i would like for the show role around Nora and Bart and have the series be about the next legacy of team Flash.
Don’t think so last time heard about it.
