Rittenhouse has won this round, so who’s going to save Rufus? NBC has cancelled its Timeless TV show after two seasons and a hard-fought campaign by fans and the writers alike. The second season ended on a heart-stopping cliffhanger, which is frustrating for fans, but reportedly, there are talks of a two-hour movie to wrap things up. Will it happen? Stay tuned.
An NBC time-travel drama from Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan, Timeless stars Matt Lanter, Abigail Spencer, Goran Višnjić, Malcolm Barrett, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey, and Claudia Doumit. As the Time Team, their mission is to prevent the destruction of our world as we know it. Susanna Thompson, Annie Wersching, and Michael Rady recur in season two as members of the nemesis organization, Rittenhouse.
Timeless: A Look at the Ratings
The second season of Timeless averaged a 0.61 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.52 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 44% and 45%, respectively. Find out how Timeless stacks up against other NBC TV shows.
Time’s up for Timeless: NBC has officially passed on making a third season of the show, EW has learned.
The cult-favorite time-travel drama has been axed by the network after a lengthy decision-making process in which the network and studio Sony Pictures Television tried to find a financially agreeable path to renew the show for weeks.
Thursday’s news will surely be disappointing for fans because the season 2 finale ended on a major cliffhanger. All may not be lost, however: Sources say there are discussions about wrapping things up in a two-hour movie, but those talks have been going on for awhile and it’s unclear if anything will come of them.
What do you think? Will you watch a movie to wrap up the storyline? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed Timeless for season three? Sound off in the comments.
I had a feeling that this would end up being the result. But as sad as I am that the decision has been made, if they make a long episode (doesn’t have to be a movie) that wraps things up then I can show due respect to the producers for doing things the right way. We all know that not everything will last forever but when we have invested time into viewing, that also includes watching the adverts, then we deserve things ending tied up in a nice neat virtual ribbon. That then inspires us to watch more shows from… Read more »
absolutely I love that show I can’t believe no third season but if they can wrap things up with the movie awesome
I love the show and if there is a movie to wrap it up that it good but the show should go on and let the show grow and book the show well and promote it well and see what happens but I pray that someone picks up the show and makes it greater than it already is. If we just get a 2 hour movie that is better than nothing.
I have no reason to watch this network anymore. I fell like they want instant success all of the time! I also do not understand how your rating system works? Does it include the various ways to watch t.v these days? It’s hard for me to watch in the day of the show but I always catch up! And enjoy doing so! I wish Netflix or Amazon would save this show. IT’S SO GOOD!!!!
I agree with you Jennifer hundred percent have no reason to watch this Network anymore but if Amazon Netflix or Hulu would take the show that be awesome
I agree, Netflix or Hulu should take this on.. I subscribe to both and would definitely follow.
So you have a cast that can tepresent the U.N., a writing staff that has kept true to the original concept and a ratings system that is antiquated.
18 to 30 yrar olds are not watching network tv. Does the ratings system take streaming, DVR’s and on demand viewing into account? Give new shows a chance to grow. Not everything is ‘This is Us’, but Timeless is close.
C’mon NBC, you’re owned by a cable company. There has to be some channel that you can put this on.
Agree 1000%!!!
Very good points!
OK, maybe Syfy could save Timeless.
Timeless should be saved by Netflix or Amazon.
Dear NBC Universal Studios, I understand why you cancel the show. And I have a suggestion for you and all those other studios who make some really concept shows and great dramas, believing that there is an audience for intelligent, thought-provoking ideas presented in the form of sci-fi and sci-fi fantasy or Anime or even in some of the dramas. Let me tell it to you straight – there isn’t or growing very small and not for typical network TV and even Cable TV as well. You are better off developing these ideas for VR or the Augmented VR of… Read more »
I will never watch NBC again. This was the smartest TV show I have ever seen.
Very disappointed! Why would I reward NBC by buying tickets to a movie that butchers the various storylines to close them? Two or even 3 hours is not anywhere close to enough time to wrap up the many interwoven storylines in any way that honors the magnificent storytelling of Timeless. “Thanks” for the offer of a bone thrown to the fans as you cancel your best show. I would rather remember Timeless in its glory.
CRAP!!! I’m done with NBC. Been left hanging by them too many times. Timeless was the best series on TV. Idiotic to cancel.
Don’t cancel this great series, please. Don’t leave fans hanging over the season finale. It’s just isn’t fair. n You cant’t do this to loyal viewers!!!!!
Please do not cancel this show. It is amazing a well worth the time put into it. I mean it has everything from futuristic ideas to old time fun. I would watch the series if it renewed, but also a movie to end. Don’t leave it hanging.
This is truly disheartening news. Really a classy intelligent show with great chemistry among the cast, along with making history fun with facts. I hope Netflix, or even sy-fy would pick this show up. They had better do the movie because leaving us hanging on that cliff is just cruel.
That’s it, I’m done with all network television. Nothing of any qualty ever lasts. I’m tired of being jerked around by mindless network executives, who don’t know a good show if it were shoved in their face. They have no respect for their viewers.
