Rittenhouse has won this round, so who’s going to save Rufus? NBC has cancelled its Timeless TV show after two seasons and a hard-fought campaign by fans and the writers alike. The second season ended on a heart-stopping cliffhanger, which is frustrating for fans, but reportedly, there are talks of a two-hour movie to wrap things up. Will it happen? Stay tuned.
An NBC time-travel drama from Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan, Timeless stars Matt Lanter, Abigail Spencer, Goran Višnjić, Malcolm Barrett, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey, and Claudia Doumit. As the Time Team, their mission is to prevent the destruction of our world as we know it. Susanna Thompson, Annie Wersching, and Michael Rady recur in season two as members of the nemesis organization, Rittenhouse.
Timeless: A Look at the Ratings
The second season of Timeless averaged a 0.61 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.52 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 44% and 45%, respectively. Find out how Timeless stacks up against other NBC TV shows.
Time’s up for Timeless: NBC has officially passed on making a third season of the show, EW has learned.
The cult-favorite time-travel drama has been axed by the network after a lengthy decision-making process in which the network and studio Sony Pictures Television tried to find a financially agreeable path to renew the show for weeks.
Thursday’s news will surely be disappointing for fans because the season 2 finale ended on a major cliffhanger. All may not be lost, however: Sources say there are discussions about wrapping things up in a two-hour movie, but those talks have been going on for awhile and it’s unclear if anything will come of them.
What do you think? Will you watch a movie to wrap up the storyline? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed Timeless for season three? Sound off in the comments.
Why do you always refer to the 18-49 demographic? Us old folks like shows like this also. Besides 18-49 have lives that take them outside the home, or children they’re involved with. The seniors are the ones sitting at home watching tv.
I really enjoy Timeless. I watch it every week. Sometimes twice. Why is it you cancel the great shows, and keep the garbage shows?
And most young people are not watching Network TV. Expand your demographics. Those of us over 49 do make significant purchases and your advertisers should realize that!
I really despise NBC for cancelling Timeless! That’s it! I already stopped watching America’s Got Talent because it’s just more of the same stuff from previous seasons. But when they cancel a show so fresh and satisfying like Timeless…it’s an outrage! I’m done with NBC! I will not watch the last season of Shades of Blue and I will not watch this network anymore!
Keep this show!!!!!
I believe it was rude to fans to end with a cliffhanger when the writers and producers didn’t know the show would have been renewed for another season. I think the writers of the show should have respected fans enough to give us a decent ending when they had the chance instead of hoping now for some extension in order to wrap that up.
Really sorry to see this show go. This was one of the few shows that my husband and I enjoyed together. It satisfied both our genre styles. Please make a movie!
There are so many bad television shows on currently such as Reality TV; I find it amazing that NBC cancels a show like Timeless – very well written series.
I hope they do a “wrap-up” movie. Enjoyed watching the show and the history it delved into. Sad to hear it is cancelled.
Timeless was one of my favorite shows on tv. I hate when I find a great show on tv only for it to be cancelled after a couple of seasons yet reality tv survives! I hope there is a movie because NBC can’t leave us with the season 2 cliffhanger.
Disgraceful decision by NBC – must do a movie now -it worked with Stargate SG1 and / or the writers find another network to put on Series 3 -fan from the UK, who watched on E4 on UK free view. One of the most original programmes on TV with great storylines and acting.
Please keep the showing going and at a minimum do the movie. I feel. This show was just hitting its stride in season 2
Its sad that crappy reality tv is watched (not by me!) but shows like timeless that dont reduce the watcher to feeling like they have the iq of a potato at the end of the episodes are all cancelled.
I hope we get a tv 2hr movie. They need to not keep their fans hanging D:
TIMELESS was the only program I’ve been watching on NBC. Sad to say, I won’t be watching anything now on NBC.
I think that this talk of maybe creating a movie to wrap it up is just a way for them to try to cushion the anger that many will have against NBC. I dont believe they have any intention of spending the money for a movie.
Yes, I would watch the movie. I hate that they ended it. It was my 13 year old sons and my favorite TV show to bond over.
Ihate they cancelled Timeless!!!!
