Why was White Famous cancelled? Recently, Showtime bosses Gary Levine and David Nevins addressed the network’s decision to end the freshman TV show, Deadline reports.
From Jamie Foxx, the comedy centers on a young, talented African-American comedian, Floyd Mooney (Jay Pharoah), who tries to maintain his roots as he becomes more popular with mainstream audiences. The cast also includes Utkarsh Ambudkar, Jacob Ming-Trent, Lonnie Chavis, and Cleopatra Coleman.
At this year’s TCA winter press tour, Nevins explained why Showtime cancelled White Famous, saying the series wasn’t moving in the right direction:
[T]here were things that worked but ultimately we concluded that it was a show that was not moving the needle and was not going to move the needle in future; it was not on the right trajectory.”

Funny show, also, some very authentic moments, would gladly watch a season 2. The writing is quite good for a freshman show, waaayyy better than Seinfeld’s first.

Since I work in the industry I can honestly say the show was on target. The sorry was beautiful with a realistic approach to balancing life, work and family. I agree better advertising and Shane on studio for not giving an opportunity to yet another good show!
White Famous deserved at least an addition season and more advertising.
I really enjoyed the show. I’m in shocked it was cancelled so soon or ever. I had no idea. I was just trying to see when it will return. It was completely funny, impactful and very real. It’s something we needed personally. It upset me that these people just push a pause button and have no idea about how the viewers that really like it feel. This really sucks. This is jacked up for real. “The needle didn’t move”? Come on!!!
This show was cancelled because the majority of fans found it too late the ratings were low during original viewing the majority of showtime viewers were not the target audience. Maybe on Starz or HBO, it would’ve worked but I knew it was doomed from the start even though I did like the show.
My husband and I just finished season 1 and we loved it. We have been looking for something that will make you laugh. There are lots of good dramas but not much to make you laugh that has heart and good stories. Jay and Jamie make a great team. Really they should have given a second season. I don’t know what they were looking for but they missed the mark on cancelling this one. Someone else should pick it up.
Yes. Me too! I really enjoyed it. It was very unique and just great work. I can’t brl they took it off air! There are so many other shows that are just right out horrible but is getting so much tv time. I don’t understand. It must be political.

Come on, Man! Seriously?! I just found out about this show and told a dozen other people. They all love it like me. Pharoah is hilarious. “‘Balls” (Ming-Trent) is the Man!! Coleman is tremendous. Re-new this thing. The writers are great and it just the entertainment we need right now!!
Pilot started off really good, Jay Pharroah was great, most of the other characters were good too, but there was something about this show that just fell flat for me. None of the episodes lived up to the first and there was something about it existing within Californication universe that felt unnecessary.
