What’s in store for Altered Carbon? Recently, creator Laeta Kalogridis spoke with IndieWire about a possible season two for the Netflix TV show.
Based on the novel by Richard K. Morgan, the sci-fi drama takes place in the 24th century and centers on Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman), a 22nd century mercenary who is forced to track down a killer. The cast also includes Renée Elise Goldsberry, James Purefoy, Kristin Lehman, Martha Higareda, Dichen Lachman, Leonardo Nam, Hayley Law, Chris Conner, Ato Essandoh, Trieu Tran, Will Yun Lee, Marlene Forte, and Byron Mann.
The answer to Season 2 is that we don’t have a greenlight for Season 2. We don’t know if we’re doing one or not.”
But if the show is renewed, what will season two be like? Kalogridis said the book’s sequels present some challenges:
As I’ve mentioned to Richard, the second book is a little expensive. It’s a giant interstellar war with a huge ship full of aliens. He wrote the second book like it was a $300 million, two-hour feature.”
However, Kalogridis says a second season of Altered Carbon could work if it differs from the books:
Richard and I have discussed that we’re now varying the story in a different direction. As he says, ‘We’ve gone full-on po-mo.’ Which we have, we’re totally post-modern. So, anything we do is gonna be a little bit of a necessary departure.”
What do you think? Have you seen Altered Carbon? Do you want a second season?
