Starz is saying goodbye to Counterpart. Deadline reports the network has cancelled the TV show after two seasons.
The sci-fi drama centers on a low-level bureaucrat, Howard Silk (J.K. Simmons), who toils away in relative obscurity at a United Nations spy outfit based in Berlin, Germany. The cast also includes Olivia Williams, Harry Lloyd, Nicholas Pinnock, Nazanin Boniadi, and Sara Serraiocco.
A Look at the Ratings:
It’s not entirely surprising that Starz has cancelled Counterpart. The series has taken a major dip in the ratings during it second season. So far, the show is earning an average rating of .04 in the 18-49 demo and only 225,00 viewers. That’s a nearly 50% drop in the ratings since season one.
However, while Counterpart won’t continue on Starz, there is still some hope for fans. According to Deadline, the show’s producer is shopping it around to other networks.
What do you think? Have you seen Counterpart? Do you want a third season?
We really loved Counterpart–Jk Simmons was brilliant thoughout. The second season was very hard to follow–it wasn’t always clear which Emily or which Howard we were watching, or which of the two “worlds” we were in, but the characters were compelling and real. It seemed to us the final episode could be a suitable conclusion to the story, as it resolved many of the personal life stories involved. Yet the closing moments left us hanging, leaving open the possibility of another season. If it comes out, we will eagerly watch it. Yet if it doesn’t, we can still feel the… Read more »
Show is best if you binge watch it. Not sure ratings takes into account all those that waited to binge watch the show online. Hoping for season 3
I love Counterpart. Please find a new home for it.
Just watched S2E10, hopeful that there would be a Season 3. I don’t know why viewership slipped in Season 2 – characters got too intertwined and confusing? Dunno. Can only tell you I will miss playing the episodes I had to DVR.
I think this is a wonderful series. I would love to see a season 3. I think it’s a mistake to cancel but I understand the ratings and it is low. But I enjoyed every episode and they tied up nicely if this is the end.
It is a great show with twists and turns that keep you coming back for more
Yes, I loved it, and only kept Starz so I could see the 2nd season. And yes, I would like to see a 3rd season somewhere. It was sometimes challenging to keep up with the plot, which only meant that you couldn’t miss an episode. It was quite enjoyable, and so much superior to most series.
If no Counterpoint, we will cancel Starz
Better than most shows on any network…but it’s too good for the average TV “vegetable.”
Please renew for third season
My wife and I paid for Starz based on this one show. The show and the actors will be missed.
Show is great. If it had more exposure it would be a hit. I loved every episode. Please test it in a bigger environment.
My very favorite TV show–praying that a streaming service picks it up. Love the characters, the outstanding acting and the writing that keeps surprising me.
Love the show dont cancel
My favourite show in a long while – superbly acted, very clever and enjoyed every minute. Really hope that it gets picked up elsewhere, a show as good as this absolutely deserves to continue.
Love J.K. Simmons and his performances in this series as well. However, Counterpart really started to lose me this 2nd season; plot line seemed to drag and only became somewhat confusing – who was who with the characters.
All that said, I thought the ending of the 2nd season was brilliant, but getting there was a challenge for me
