Each television season brings lots of different kinds of TV shows but there’s one thing that remains a constant — most of them will end up being cancelled.
Below is the list of TV series that aired or were expected to air during the 2013-14 season (roughly September 2013 to August 2014) and won’t be back for 2014-15.
If you don’t see a particular show on this list, it might be on the list for the 2012-13 season or for the 2014-15 season.
This list will be updated as the season progresses so feel free to bookmark and check back. If I’ve missed something, please let me know.
24 (FOX)
There’s been talk of bringing this series back for another season — with or without Kiefer Sutherland — but for now, it appears that the clock has stopped on this action drama.
Almost Human (FOX)
The series started strong in the ratings but the numbers dropped lower and lower as the season progressed. There won’t be a second season.
America Now (syndicated)
Hosted by Leeza Gibbons and Bill Rancic, this lifestyles program won’t be back for a fifth season.
ANT Farm (Disney)
One of the lead actors announced that season three will be the end of the Disney Channel sitcom.
The Arsenio Hall Show (syndicated)
The late night talk show was renewed for a second season with the news being delivered on-air by Jay Leno. CBS Television later changed their mind and cancelled the show instead.
Back in the Game (ABC)
The alphabet network has decided to cancel the Maggie Lawson sitcom after 13 episodes.
Backpackers (The CW)
The smallest network dropped this series after just two episodes.
Bad Teacher (CBS)
It didn’t take the network long to decide that this show wasn’t making the grade.
BAPs (Lifetime)
The reality series was pulled after four of the six episodes had aired.
Being Human (Syfy)
The UK version ended in 2013 after five seasons. The US version has been cancelled after four years.
Believe (NBC)
This show had loyal fans but just not enough for a second season.
Best Week Ever (VH1)
The show was initially cancelled in 2009 and then revived in 2013. Now, it’s been cancelled again.
Bet on Your Baby (ABC)
After a two season run on Saturday nights, this competition series is over.
Betas
(Amazon)
The streaming service has cut this Silicon Valley comedy after 11 episodes.
Bethenny (syndicated)
The talk show struggled in the ratings and many affiliate stations didn’t want a second season.
Betrayal (ABC)
The drama had poor ratings for the start but the network let all 13 episodes air.
Black Box (ABC)
The network pulled the plug on this low-rated summer drama after 13 episodes, leaving the professional fate of the main character up in the air.
The Boondocks (Adult Swim)
It’s been decided that the fourth season is the animated show’s last.
The Bridge (FX)
A crime thriller, this series did okay in its first season but the ratings took a big dip and FX cancelled it.
Californication (Showtime)
It’s been decided that the seventh season of this David Duchovny TV series will be the end.
Call Me Fitz (DirecTV)
This Jason Priestley series ended its run after four seasons with a two-part holiday episode.
The Carrie Diaries (The CW)
Sex and the City ran for six seasons but alas the tale of teenage Carrie Bradshaw only lasted two.
CeeLo Green’s The Good Life (TBS)
Green’s reality show has been cancelled after six episodes.
Chozen (FX)
The white gay rapper’s career has been cut short because this animated comedy has been cancelled.
Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey (FOX)
Hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, this science series ran for one season of 13 episodes.
The Crazy Ones (CBS)
This sitcom was supposedly quite expensive to produce and the ratings didn’t warrant a second year.
Crisis (NBC)
This hostage drama won’t be back for a second season.
Crossbones (NBC)
This pirate drama aired on Friday nights and was then shipped to Saturdays due to low ratings.
Crossfire (CNN)
The cable channel has cancelled the political discussion program for a second time.
Dads (FOX)
This Seth Green sitcom lasted 18 episodes, airing between September 2013 and February 2014.
Dallas (TNT)
The ratings for this continuation of the popular CBS series was dropped after three seasons. It’s a good thing JR isn’t around to hear this news. There’d be hell to pay.
The Divide (WE tv)
This cable drama was the cable channel’s first scripted series but there won’t be a second season.
Dracula (NBC)
Apparently stakes aren’t the only think that can kill a vampire.
Drop Dead Diva (Lifetime)
The series was cancelled after four seasons but was later resurrected. The decision has been made to end it again, after six seasons.
Eastbound & Down (HBO)
The fourth season is the end of Kenny Powers’ story.
Emerald City (NBC)
The peacock network ordered 10 episodes of a new Oz drama but then could agree with the showrunner on the series’ direction so they cancelled their plans.
Enlisted (FOX)
The guys have been discharged. The network has cancelled the Army comedy that aired on Friday nights.
Famous in 12 (The CW)
Executive producer Harvey Levin pulled the plug on the reality series after five episodes.
Fish Hooks (Disney)
In September 2013, one of the show’s director’s reported that he’d delivered the last episode. The series finale aired the following April.
Franklin & Bash (TNT)
The buddy legal series has been coming down in the ratings for years and now, after four seasons, the cable channel has pulled the plug.
Freakshow (AMC)
This series was cancelled as part of the cable channel’s decision to get out of the reality show business.
Friends with Better Lives (CBS)
The network has high ratings standards for their comedies and this one just didn’t measure up. Un-friended.
Gang Related (FOX)
Despite having some very devoted fans, the ratings weren’t good enough for FOX to order a second season.
Good Luck Charlie (Disney Channel)
The house of mouse has decided that the series should end with season four.
Growing Up Fisher (NBC)
About a Boy earned a renewal but this sitcom did not.
Hello Ladies (HBO)
There won’t be a second season of this low-rated series but the cable channel intends to wrap up the show with a special.
Hello Ross (E!)
Ross Mathews’ series has been cancelled after two seasons but he’s not leaving the cable channel.
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (TLC)
The reality show was reported cancelled because the mother was dating a convicted child molester.
Hieroglyph (FOX)
The network ordered this show in October 2013 but, after seeing one produced episode, the execs have decided to cancel all future production.
Hostages (CBS)
Despite the fact that this show had some great talent, not enough viewers tuned in.
How I Met Your Mother (CBS)
Future Ted’s poor kids will finally be able to get off the couch. Talk about child abuse!
I Wanna Marry “Harry” (FOX)
The network canned the fake prince’s reality show after four episodes.
In the Flesh (BBC America)
This horror drama was cancelled after two seasons due to limited economic resources.
Intelligence (CBS
The network has had a hard time filling the Mondays at 10pm timeslot — and this show didn’t help.
Ironside (NBC)
Raymond Burr’s original series lasted seven seasons but this remake was cancelled after three episodes.
Ja’mie: Private School Girl (HBO)
This import series ran for just six episodes.
Jennifer Falls (TV Land)
This Jaime Pressly sitcom about a single mom who’s lost her high-paying job was cut after 10 episodes.
Judge Alex (syndicated)
The venerable court series has been cancelled after nine years on the air. New episodes air through August 2014.
Katie (syndication)
The ratings for this (expensive) daytime talk show weren’t strong enough to justify a third season.
Killer Women (ABC)
The network pulled this low-rated show before all eight episodes had aired.
The Killing (AMC, Netflix)
This show was cancelled twice by AMC but was then revived for a final season by Netflix. All of the last six episodes were released on August 1st.
Kirstie (TV Land)
Despite having three veterans of two legendary sitcoms in the cast, this comedy just didn’t catch on. It was cancelled after one season and 12 episodes.
The Kudlow Report (CNBC)
The cable series is over after five years but host Larry Kudlow is staying on CNBC.
Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (NBC)
This show ended so that Fallon could take over the Tonight Show from Jay Leno.
Legit (FXX)
This comedy started on FX and, moved to FXX and has now moved to the television graveyard.
Less Than Kind (DirecTV )
The fourth season of this Canadian drama is the show’s last. There are 48 episodes.
Let’s Stay Together (BET)
This cable sitcom ran for four seasons and 55 episodes before being cancelled.
The Listener (CTV)
NBC dropped this Canadian series after one season but it was a hit north of the border. After five seasons, CTV has decided to end it.
The Lottery (Lifetime)
Unfortunately, there’s no future for this series about a dystopian time when women have stopped having children.
Low Winter Sun (AMC)
The drama started out well but viewership dropped each week. Once it didn’t have Breaking Bad as a lead-in, the numbers got even worse. It’s been cancelled.
Lucky 7 (ABC)
The show was unlucky in the ratings and the network cancelled it after two episodes. It’s the first show of the network season to be cancelled.
Men at Work (TBS)
After three seasons of 10 episodes each, this sitcom is over.
The Michael J Fox Show (NBC)
The network had high hopes for Fox’s return but the ratings were awful. They pulled it after 15 episodes.
Mind Games (ABC)
It’s another cancellation for Christian Slater and another ratings disappoinntment for ABC in the Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot.
Mixology (ABC)
This mid-season sitcom that’s set in a bar won’t be back for the 2014-15 season.
Mob City (TNT)
The ratings weren’t strong enough for the cable channel to order a second season but they want to stay in business with Frank Darabont.
Murder Police (FOX)
The network ordered this animated series but cancelled it before it was completed. The studio may complete the series and shop it elsewhere.
Mystery Girls (ABC Family)
This Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth sitcom lasted one season and 10 episodes. It won’t be back for a second season.
The Neighbors (ABC)
Sorry alien-lovers. The network has evicted this show after two seasons.
Nikita (The CW)
The action series survived for three years — despite poor ratings. The network decided to end it with season four.
Nikki & Sara Live (MTV)
The late-night series has been dropped after two seasons. The last episode aired October 29, 2013.
NY Med (ABC)
The network brought this docu-series back for a second season after a year away. At least for now, it looks like there isn’t a third season.
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (ABC)
The ratings for this spin-off were certainly not “wonderful,” even from the start. The network decided to end the show after 13 episodes.
Partners (FX)
This odd couple legal sitcom would have run for 90 more episodes if the first season had done well in the ratings.
The Pete Holmes Show (TBS)
A late-night talk show, this series won’t be back for a third season.
Piers Morgan Live (CNN)
After three years, the weeknight interview program has been cancelled by the cable news channel.
Psych (USA)
After eight seasons and 121 episodes, it’s the end of the road for best buddies.
The Quest (ABC)
This fantasy competition series found a devoted audience but the ratings were too low for the network to order a second season for 2015.
Raising Hope (FOX)
It’s time to say farewell to the Chance family after four seasons.
Rake (FOX)
A dark comedy, this Greg Kinnear show debuted to poor ratings and they only got worse. It won’t be back.
Ravenswood (ABC Family)
Pretty Little Liars is a big hit for the cable channel but this spin-off didn’t catch on.
Reckless (CBS)
This steamy legal drama didn’t catch on with enough viewers so CBS cancelled it.
Reed Between the Lines (BET)
Star Tracee Ellis Ross left after one season so the show was reworked for season two. The show was later cancelled and it’s unclear when/if the second season will air.
Revolution (NBC)
It was a big hit initially but the ratings really went down in season two. There won’t be a third season.
Riot (FOX)
This comedy improv show was pulled and cancelled after four installments.
Rising Star (ABC)
The singing competition drew poor ratings and was cancelled after one season.
Rob Dyrdek Fantasy Factory (MTV)
The show came to a close after six seasons and 67 episodes on March 20, 2014.
Rush (USA)
The cable channel cancelled this drama after a season of low ratings.
Saint George (FX)
The George Lopez sitcom’s ratings were too low for FX to want a second season.
Sam & Cat (Nickelodeon)
The show was very successful for the cable channel but backstage issues derailed plans for a second season and it was cancelled.
Sean Saves the World (NBC)
The peacock network shut down production on the low-rated sitcom, cut the episode order and cancelled it.
Seed (The CW)
The smallest network dropped this comedy after two episodes but it had already been renewed for a second season in Canada (where it’s produced).
Showbiz Tonight (HLN)
The entertainment news program has been cancelled a couple weeks short of its ninth birthday.
Sing Your Face Off (ABC)
The celebrity singing competition drew poor ratings and was cancelled after one season.
Small Town Security (AMC)
This series was cancelled as part of the cable channel’s decision to get out of the reality show business.
Sons of Guns (Discovery Channel)
The series was cancelled after five seasons due to the star being charged with child molestation and rape.
Star-Crossed (The CW)
The story of the alien Romeo and human Juliet has been cut short. The network cancelled it after 13 episodes.
Suburgatory (ABC)
This comedy just never caught on with a large audience. The network has dropped it after three seasons.
Sullivan & Son (TBS)
Set in a neighborhood bar, this sitcom lasted for three seasons before being cancelled.
Super Fun Night (ABC)
People may love Rebel Wilson but not enough of them stuck with this show. It’s done after 17 episodes.
Surviving Jack (FOX)
The network cut the episode order from 13 to eight installments. Now, they’ve cut the show entirely. It won’t be back for a second season.
Taxi Brooklyn (NBC)
The first season ended with plenty of cliffhangers but NBC opted not to order a second season of this summer drama.
Teen Mom 3 (MTV)
This incarnation of the Teen Mom franchise only lasted one season and 14 episodes.
The Test (syndicated)
A conflict resolution talk show, The Test has been cancelled after one season on the air.
Those Who Kill (A&E, LMN)
This show’s ratings were poor from the start and it was pulled after two episodes. LMN relaunched it and played all 10 episodes. No surprise that it was cancelled.
The Tomorrow People (The CW)
This series started out strong in the ratings but some viewers apparently lost interest as the season progressed. It won’t be back.
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC)
The network has chosen to replace Leno as host for the second time.
Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell (FXX)
The new cable channel handed down its first cancellation notice to this late-night talker.
Treme (HBO)
The cable channel announced that David Simon’s low-rated New Orleans series would end with season four.
Trisha (syndicated)
There won’t be a third season of Trisha Goddard’s talk show.
Trophy Wife (ABC)
For whatever reason, Bradley Whitford has had a hard time finding a new successful TV show.
True Blood (HBO)
Vampires may live forever but this popular cable show ends with season seven.
Twisted (ABC Family)
Though the series earned some devoted fans, the show didn’t draw enough viewers to earn a second season.
Up Late with Alec Baldwin (MSNBC)
The cable channel’s first interview show lasted just five episodes.
Us & Them (FOX)
The network reportedly didn’t feel the tone of this romantic comedy would fit with their other sitcoms. They shut down production and told the cast they could look for other work. The produced episodes may air.
Warehouse 13 (Syfy)
In May 2013, the cable channel announced that they were renewing the series for a fifth but final season of six episodes.
We Are Men (CBS)
The network has high expectations for their sitcoms and this one premiered poorly. When the second episode did even worse, that was enough.
Welcome to the Family (NBC)
This sitcom drew poor ratings from the start and is no longer welcome in the NBC family.
The Wil Wheaton Project Syfy
The cable channel pulled the plug on the comedy show after one season of 12 episodes.
Wilfred (FXX)
Ryan and his big canine pal moved to FXX for the fourth and final season.
Wipeout (ABC)
After seven seasons, Wipeout is no longer on the network’s schedule or website.
Witches of East End (Lifetime)
The magic ran out for this cable series after two seasons.
Working the Engels (NBC)
This sitcom wasn’t a success in the US or in Canada so it was cancelled in both.
The X Factor (FOX)
Simon Cowell has decided to return to the UK version and FOX says there’s no US show without him. The ratings for season three were also pretty awful.
Note: Unforgettable has been removed because it was revived by A&E. Community has been removed because it’s been picked up by Yahoo for season six. Single Ladies has been removed because it’s been revived by Centric. Last Call with Carson Daly has been removed from the list because, at least for now, NBC has decided to keep it going with Daly as host. Ripper Street has been removed because it was cancelled after two seasons but was later revived. Longmire has been removed because Netflix picked it up for a fourth season.
