TNT has officially cancelled Leverage after five seasons on the air. The action series will conclude its run on Tuesday, Christmas Day. Thankfully, the show about modern Robin Hoods will have a suitable ending.
Executive producer Dean Devlin recently wrote an open letter to fans. He penned, “As of the writing of this letter, we still do not know if there will be a season six of our show… Because of this uncertainty, John Rogers and I decided to end this season with the episode we had planned to make to end the series, way back when we shot the pilot. So, the episode that will air on Christmas is, in fact, the series finale we had always envisioned.”
Here’s TNT’s official statement about the cancellation:
TNT’S “LEVERAGE” COMING TO AN END
TNT’s Leverage has thrilled audiences with its delightfully intricate plots, its “stand up for the little guy” attitude and its terrific performances from stars Timothy Hutton, Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, Beth Riesgraf and Aldis Hodge. But after five wonderful years, it’s time to say goodbye. Leverage will come to a close on Christmas, Tuesday, Dec. 25, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), with a series finale that stands as one of the show’s best episodes.
We are honored to have worked with executive producer Dean Devlin, Electric Entertainment, creators John Rogers and Chris Downey, and all the cast and production crew on Leverage. We look forward to exploring new opportunities to work with them again in the future. We also want to thank the passionately devoted fans of Leverage, who have been the driving force behind its success.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Leverage won’t be back for a sixth season or do you think this is a good time to end the series?
Love, Love, Love this show. Funny, smart, heroic show. This series is the only place on TV (and possibly in the real world) that the ordinary person can win. We Need To Hve Some Hope.
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW… Maybe we need a letter or posting campaign.
Sad to that TNT would cancel a TV show that was truly a family show. There were no murders, blood, and violence. It taught us all that, we can get what we want by using sensible tactics. I guess this will move another great show (Falling Skies) into number 1. I am sure as soon as it gets a great following TNT will cancel that one too.
Really sad to see ANOTHER good show fade from existance. While I can understand the pressures of coming up with such unique senarios for each weeks show it still seems like there should bea way to bring in fresh writers and give the ones who have been in the trenches for the first 5 seasons a bit of a break. In addition to the GREAT actors and story lines, since I live in Portland it’s also a kick to see the familiar settings in and around our beautiful city.
I AM SO SORRY TO SEE A WONDERFUL SHOW LIKE LEVERAGE CANCELLED.
IT HAS BEEN A FAVORITE OF MINE FOR A LONG TIME.
WHY DO THE BEST SHOWS HAVE TO GO AND THOSE CRAPPY SHOWS MAKE IT. LIKE HONEY BOO BOO, BIGFOOT, NEW JERSEY SHORE, HOUSEWIVES, AND ETC.
Biggest mistake was to cancel this show! There’s not enough good shows like this on tv, so sad!
I am so sad to see it cancelled!!! It was a great show but I am really glad that they
wrapped it up as they did:)
I as a viewer am growing increasingly tired of the powers that be in television cancelling anytthing I deem enjoyable to watch. I will miss Leverage greatly. It was intelligent, funny, witty and sharp. The same could be said of its cast, crew, and writers. Now it will be replaced with drivel or more of that so called reality tv. I prefer to be entertained by professionals. I will be watching one less hour of tv per week now. Unless Leverage is still on in re-runs.
Sad to see this intelligent & witty series cime to an end, but at least the creators had the foresight to have already filmed the series finale, apparently years before its actual time. We are not left hanging, as so many other shows have left us. “Leverage” goes out on its own terms, like the winner that it was…
So upset about this. This show was incredible. The cast chemistry was unmatched, it was the only how I watched that I couldn’t predict how things would happen. It was creative and entertaining.
I also concur with the opinions for keeping this show. I loved this show as does my husband. I wish the powers that made this decision would reconsider. And, really, does the current ratings system really work? I mean is it truly accurate? I sometimes wonder when shows I love get cancelled every so often. I think my likes and dislikes are pretty average and that a lot of people might feel the way I do.
I am really depressed. The worst episode of Leverage was better than the best episode of most TV shows. The chemistry between the cast was a treat to watch. Never missed an episode.
Crap.
I am crushed that the show has ended!!! I Loved it!!! Was one of my favorite shows on TV. Very disappointed with TNT for canceling it,
So sorry for this to be over!!! I concur with other comments – finally something with some entertainment value that actually had a brain…… and now back to mindless junk.
Why in heavens name have they cancelled this brilliant show?!! It does not make sense I’m presuming that the ratings haven’t fell that low that it warrants them cancelling it. And i havent hear the cast have said they dont want to do the show anymore. I live in the UK and I’ve watched this show from the very beginning. Im sick of these people cancelling these brilliant american shows five years is really not that long and its not like the stories have run there course theres loads more that they could do, with the black book etc…. There… Read more »
Loved this show – so sad to see it goes! Seems that USA has the best shows now and they keep their shows going for many seasons – what the fans want!
