canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Mad About You: Would You Watch a Revival of the NBC Sitcom?

by Jessica Pena, December 28, 2017

Mad About You TV show on NBC: (canceled or renewed?)Is Mad About You making a comeback? TVLine reports there may be a reboot of the NBC TV show in the works.

The ’90s sitcom starred Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt as Paul and Jamie Buchman, a newly married couple living in New York City. The show ran seven seasons before ending in 1999.

According to TVLine, Sony Pictures Television Studios (who produced Mad About You) has begun discussing a possible reboot with both Reiser and Hunt returning. The revival would reportedly center on Paul and Jamie’s relationship after their daughter goes to college.

Neither Sony nor NBC have confirmed the reboot. If it does happen, Mad About You will follow in the footsteps of other recently revived shows like The X-Files, Prison Break, Will & Grace and 2018’s Roseanne.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Mad About You? Would you watch a reboot of this ’90s sitcom?

The common thread amongst the shows that are being revived was the perfect chemistry between the actors. It may take a few episodes but they typically get that chemistry back. I think Mad About You would have great success. I could easily envision the hilarity of the Buchmans dealing with male pattern baldness, wrinkles, menopause and what we all enjoy once we hit 50…the inevitable bombardment of AARP literature. I watch the reruns now and would definitely tune in for a reboot!!

No I would not watch. You have to go forward with TV shows, not backwards. It’s over and done with long ago and there was a reason it ended. Why bring it back? Can’t writers think of something new? Geez!

No! The actors are great but this nonsense of rebooting old movies, tv shows, etc. has long since gone past the done to death stage. It’s become as much of a plague to entertainment as reality television and shows zero creativity. No Mad About You, no Rockford Files, no Barney Miller, Green Acres, Barnaby Jones, Kojak, etc., etc. Enough is enough!

No. What’s next? A Joanie Loves Chachi remake? Plus have you seen Reiser lately. EW

I wouldn’t watch it. I loved the show, especially Hank Azaria as the dog walker, but I’m sick to death of TV revivals with a few exceptions that have been done quite well….I’m talking to you X-Files.

I would watch a reboot in a hot second, but I highly doubt Helen Hunt would come back for it. But who know?

Probably not. Like so many shows from the 90s, “Mad About You” was of its time and for its time. All these reboots, remakes and revivals are getting to be too much. Viewers need something new (or are the networks too lazy to bother nowadays?), not rehashings of just about everything from the past. Times have changed, people have moved on. Where’s the creativity?

I would love a remake of Mad About You, it was my favorite show. I would love to see the reruns but can’t find it on any station I have. Great show, no swearing, no sex, no violence. Good family show.
