Soap Opera Ratings for the 2016-17 Season (updated 9/26/17)

Published: September 26, 2017

Soap opera ratings (cancel or renew?)Once upon a time, there were lots of soap operas on the networks’ daytime schedules. Most were cancelled over the years and only four remain — The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS), Days of Our Lives (NBC), General Hospital (ABC), and The Young and the Restless (CBS). How long will these four survive? That will likely have a lot to do with the ratings. Stay tuned.

Note: Each network measures its own programming’s success separately. Still, it’s fun to see how the four remaining soap operas rank against each other.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

Season-to-date averages are compared to previous season averages. Raw data courtesy Soap Opera Network.

How are your shows doing in the ratings? Check the current rankings:
A&E | ABC | AMC | Bravo | CBS | CMT | The CW | FOX | Freeform | FX | FXX
Hallmark | HBO | History | MTV | NBC | OWN | Showtime | Starz | Syfy | TBS
TNT | TV Land | USA Network | WGN America

What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?

Too bad that Days Of Our Lives isn’t gonna get cancelled. My sister even as a child would constantly tape each and every single episode even during school week and make sure that she never misses an episode. One time my Mom wasn’t able to tape one episode and my sister acted like a soap opera actress herself. Sheesh! Talk about life being like a soap opera for real.

As much as I want it to be Days Of Our Lives, most likely it will be General Hospital that’s gonna get cancelled because I don’t see renewed right next to it unless they forgot to add (renewed) right next to it. So General Hospital will probably get the axe and then they’ll only be three daytime soaps left. Thank God.

Will I watch Days, but with it being the lowest rates of the remaining four, I give it maybe 2 years and it will be cancelled.

Watched “AMC” and “ONLTL” for 40 years – “General Hospital” – which I also loved – began to insult my intelligence with its core mob boss never gets caught premise. So I gave all the other survivors a chance – the ONLY one which goes substantively beyond who’s slept with who lately (AGAIN) is The Young and the Restless – intriguing story telling and believable characters. Y’all – give it a chance and you will see the difference!

I’ve been a devoted fan for 40+ years, but I stopped watching GH in November 2016 and I wont be tuning in again, until that hate spewing NLG is fired. Her foul mouthed tirades on social media are disgusting and its a poor reflection on ABC as a whole, to continue to employ a hate monger. Fire her. Cancel the show. Either way, I dont really care any more.

I’ve been hooked on Cbs soaps since 1972, age 7. I’m now 52. It was devastating when ASTWT & GL cancelled. Please don’t cancel B&B! You’ll have taken all the best exceptY&R off air. Cancel Days… don’t take bb away from your avid fans!

I have been watching General almost since the beginning! It was awful when you canceled All my Children, and One Life to Live! I also watched them all that time! I hope that you won’t have to cancel anymore!

Days of our lives is the best show ever! Please don’t cancel it, I have seen every episode as far back as a kid and enjoy every show thereafter!! Why cancel something that’s good? I will never watch NBC again if you cancel this and that’s a promise and I know plenty more people who feel the same way!!!!!

NBC could cancel Days of Our Lives and I wouldn’t care. I gave up on the show for the last time a few months back because it has been consistently terrible for almost 2 years. I watched over 30 years but I had seen enough. The couples are forced and the headwriter DH shouldn’t be there. She has damaged the show beyond repair. I hated all the stories especially Rafe’s. DH forces him on viewers and made him episode leader for the year. The same like when she was headwriter before. I disliked all the teen stories after they sorased… Read more »

The “killings” that happened during the time of Days 50th anniversary were very hard to take. It should have been a happy, joyous time and the darkness and murders really turned a lot of viewers off.

DH is gone & now you are watching Ron Carlivati’s (HW) work on Days.
Think the rate GH is going.. they are next in the chopping block. The EP is the problem! Time to fire him & bring back Wendy Riche

They’re not in my time zone anymore. [since last September] Hwvr, since the time change no difference. You can watch one live, tape the other to DVR & watch later it will still count. Actually, the one viewed on DVR gets counted the live one- unless you have a Nielsen box will not count.

I wanna know why you folks want to remove the soaps but yet your channels our filled with tons of sports that basically women don`t care about? Maybe some sports shows need to be cancelled?
