Soap Opera Ratings for the 2018-19 Season (updated 10/8/19)

Published: October 8, 2019

Soap opera ratings (cancel or renew?)As longtime television viewers know, there used to be a lot more soap operas on the air. Today, only four of them remain — The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS), Days of Our Lives (NBC), General Hospital (ABC), and The Young and the Restless (CBS). Their ratings are a fraction of what they used to be, even a few years ago, so it can feel like they’re on borrowed time. How long will these four survive? That will likely have a lot to do with the ratings. Stay tuned.

Note: Each network measures the success of its own programming. Still, it’s fun to see how the four remaining soap operas rank against each other.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

Season-to-date averages are compared to previous season averages. Raw data courtesy Soap Opera Network.

How are your shows doing in the ratings? Check the current rankings:
A&E | ABC | AMC | Bravo | CBS | CMT | The CW | FOX | Freeform | FX | FXX
Hallmark | HBO | History | MTV | NBC | OWN | Showtime | Starz | Syfy | TBS
TNT | TV Land | USA Network | WGN America

What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?

The Bold and Beautiful has gone down the drain for good. One story line for the last several months is so boring and frustrating, that I gave up watching, and watched the recording of it just so I could fast forward through the crying, until it took only 5minutes to watch the show. Then I stopped recording. So I tune in a month later, and still boohoo for half an hour. You’ve lost me forever. Bye bye!

I think the ratings system is useless unless they figure a way to capture online viewing most people don’t watch live altho I do, and many people skip the commercials so they’re not counted.

Bold and beautiful should go the writer keeps recycling stories nothing new and all new actresses as well as Liam,Wyatt,Thomas have no expressions except woeful depression no matter what they have same expression for all emotions. I taped and use to watch about 15 mins. Now I don’t watch at all due to the new hope,Thomas,Emma,Liam,Zoe,Flo, so flat

I used to watch DOOL and GH all the time but had to give them up because I don’t have time to invest every day especially when plots are so repetitive. I don’t understand why the powers that be stand by and let these ships sink. What about airing only 1 or 2 episodes a week? Moving to primetime even. Evening shows tend to be clustered into popular time slots and the rest of the week there is nothing to watch. What about a Tuesday and Saturday night soap? And a leap into 2019 by showing them on a streaming… Read more »

I think bold and beautiful is so bad. Back and forth. Stealing a baby, using a dead mother to get what you want.I can’t believe that it didn’t get canceled. I don’t watch after they had a baby stolen. Bell is nuts!

I agee that long drawn out storyline makes me want to puke. Does not pay on that story to be a good person.

I have watched the bold & the beautiful since day 1 & they have really went downhill, but stopped a while back when they started with this baby switch story & keep dragging it out. Yeah I read from time to time to see if they have come to their senses but my friends & family & I just cannot stand to watch this anymore. As a mother who lost a baby in real life, well this make believe soap still brings up memories of the pain & to think they would let it go on this long, well there… Read more »

I’ve watch the Bold and Beautiful since it began. It is far superior than the other soaps, ie young and restless and Days. Both of which I’ve stopped watching. Fans get very vocal and go back and forth on issues but in general it’s very well done. It actually would be nicer to have more daytime drama shows and less “talk” shows. The “talk” shows seem to be fueling the country with Hate. Where the dramas seem me fuel compassion. Something to think about. I believe your static’s are off also regarding your statistics. Where are these numbers coming from.?

My guy has Glioblastoma there’s is no cure, how would you explain to those of us going through this terrible disease that this one time there was?
The actor chose to leave he had a new job, I really think he was great too.

As for DOD and Shiloh it’s not my favorite story but it is timely so I hope they finish it quickly and don’t keep da Dawson or Shiloh I do think people are disgusted w the story

Keep GH! Avid fan for over 20 years. Current story lines have been fantastic, and much more engaging. Reminds me of the story lines of the height of the shows popularity!!

ENOUGH WITH THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL PLEASE!!!! Brooke has been married and divorced to every man on the show at LEAST twice!!! No one stays married. As soon as they say I DO, if you let them, less than a week and the marriage is falling apart. SHOCKING (NOT) . I’m not watch in this CRAP about Hope’s baby going to Steffy! They’ll blame Taylor and say she arranged it all. We KNOW the story without you even playing it out!!!! It’s to late to let the show die with ANY dignity. The ONLY reason it has any ratings… Read more »

Haha sooo true. I said this long ago that Taylor will be the one blamed. They should have done this long ago. I stopped watching months ago. Bold and the beautiful sucks. Is Mel Young the head writer now?

If The Bold and Beautiful go along with the storyline about hopes baby being kidnapped and sold I’m going to quit watching it we already did this one on The Young and the Restless it’s been played leave it alone do not do that storyline again you’re going to lose a lot of you

Bold and the Beautiful’s story line with Hope being upset all the time needs to stop! Who wants to see that over and over again! This is such a waste of energy!!!

Been watching since I was 10… That’s 40 years of characters and storylines. Not all good, but worth every minute. Please don’t cancel it!

Bold and the Beautiful sucks. Constant repeat story lines. New writers desperately needed. The only reason they’re in second place among the four remaining soaps is due to the carryover viewers from Y&R. SMH.
