Nearly every culture has a vampire myth. Bram Stoker’s Gothic horror novel, Dracula, was published 120 years ago and took the world by storm. It has inspired many adaptations and served as the stepping-off-point for further explorations of the legend. Now in its second season on Syfy, the Van Helsing TV show is a twist centering on Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton), a descendant of Stoker’s protagonist, Professor Abraham Van Helsing. A top-three performer for Syfy in its first season, can it build on its audience, this time around? Will Van Helsing be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.
A Syfy horror fantasy, Van Helsing, stars Overton, Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, David Cubitt, Vincent Gale, Rukiya Bernard, Trezzo Mahoro, Tim Guinee, Laura Mennell, Paul Johansson, Aleks Paunovic, and Hilary Jardine. Vanessa or “Van” Helsing awoke from a coma to find vampires have overtaken the world. Since she has a unique blood composition which makes her immune to vampires and allows her to turn them into humans, this vampire hunter is their prime target. In Van Helsing, season two, Van and the other survivors realize that old alliances have fallen apart. Meanwhile, new contacts are revealing secrets about The Rising, the Van Helsing legacy, and the very fate of mankind itself.
