Get ready for even more from the world of the Vikings. A sequel series to Vikings is now in the works, and it will take viewers to the time of Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada and the Norman King William the Conqueror. The new series is set 100 years after the end of the History drama. The final season of Vikings premieres on December 4. Michael Hirst is behind this new series.
Netflix shared quotes from those involved with Vikings: Valhalla in a press release. Check those out below.
Michael Hirst:
“I am beyond excited that we are announcing the continuation of our Vikings saga. I know that the millions of our fans across the globe will be thrilled by the belief being shown in our show by MGM and Netflix. Jeb Stuart, a truly wonderful writer, will bring new story-lines and a powerful visceral vision to stories about some of the most famous Vikings known to history.”
Steve Stark, MGM’s President of Television Production and Development:
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Michael, Morgan, Jeb and Netflix on the next chapter in the incredible Vikings universe. Valhalla has been a labor of love for everyone involved and as we look ahead to the continuation of this great saga, we are excited to know that fans the world over will have the opportunity to continue with the series on its new home at Netflix.”
Channing Dungey, Vice President, Original Series, Netflix:
“Vikings: Valhalla promises to be everything that fans love about the franchise: heart-pounding, unstoppable action rooted in rich characters and dramatic storytelling that shines the light on family, loyalty and power. We are thrilled to bring the next iteration of the Vikings saga to life with Michael Hirst, Jeb Stuart, Morgan O’Sullivan and MGM Television.”
A premiere date for Vikings: Valhalla was not revealed.
What do you think? Will you watch the new series when it arrives on Netflix? Are you a fan of the original Vikings?
This was an event worse ending than GOT. How could they leave so many loose ends and do the cliche ambiguous dream ending? It is not artful, just lazy poor quality writing.
It would be different if the sequel were to pick up soon after the battle, but it is set 100 years in the future. So what brilliant writing comes next? A ton of cheesy shallow cameos?
I have been watching since day one. Absolutely love the show. Was disappointed that all of my favorite people were killed in the end, and Floki was left with whereabouts unknown. I think a lot of the reason that the ratings dropped is because it was so long in between seasons. People lose interest. I didn’t, I’m looking forward to the next series. I agree with as stated above by others that Netflix will probably drop it after the first season like they do all the other good programs. But I’ll watch what I can find when they come back… Read more »
No I will not watch the Netflix series nor the remaining History episodes if any after the Feb 5th mess
Knowing the story lines are more fantasy then History is acceptable entertainment but to kill off every “ good”” Viking in the last episode especially Bjorn was a slap in the face….
I’m glad they will be continuing the saga. I knew when Lagertha died–and Ragna was dead also–that there really were no characters to which viewers could relate intensely to replace them. Certainly there is no replacement of Lagertha–no one can replicate her devotion, courage, intensity, intelligence, leadership and fortitude. I noticed that Ivar seems to be on a path toward redemption, which I don’t believe is historically correct, but it’s interesting. I also noticed that Eric the Red has been introduced.
I certainly look forward to the next iteration of the Vikings saga!
It will be cancelled after one season. Netflix has been cancelling all their shows after only one season.
I will definitely watch it
Excited! I didn’t see who has been cast?
Absolutely, I’ll be watching!
Sounds great. I hope it doesn’t take years to come out though.
I will definitely watch and i cant wait for the new season of Vikings to start on December 4th
