Did Whiskey Cavalier ever have a chance at a second season? Recently, ABC boss Karey Burke explained why the network briefly reconsidered the TV show’s cancellation, TVLine reports.
The drama series centers on FBI Agent Will Chase (Scott Foley), codename: “Whiskey Cavalier” and CIA operative Frankie Trowbridge (Lauren Cohan), codename: “Fiery Tribune.” Although they start off as rivals, they’re soon assigned to a joint-agency task force to root out corruption and crime and save the world. The cast also includes Ana Ortiz, Tyler James Williams, Vir Das, and Josh Hopkins.
Earlier this year, ABC cancelled Whiskey Cavalier after one season only to reconsider the decision before ultimately canceling the series. Speaking to TVLine, ABC boss Karey Burke said the network considered bringing the show back because of an email written by executive producer Bill Lawrence:
He was just so deeply passionate about it. He put his heart and soul into it. And he just asked us to take one last look. And we really did.”
However, Burke said a second season of Whiskey Cavalier was just to difficult to justify given the show’s low ratings:
It was tough [to justify] financially [and] ratings-wise. We ultimately just decided to bet on the future.”

Whiskey Cavalier was one of our favorite shows! We would look forward to watching it and it was one of the few shows that we would watch intently from start to finish & not want it to end because it was so good! We’re so disappointed that it was cancelled.
I would definitely be watching for more of this show. I think it is so short sighted to not go another season given current situations. The difficulty in finding a show that we can watch then figure out the changing schedules make it difficult for viewers to follow. There are many shows that ratings were not glorious but because huge hits after the first season and I believe this is one of those shows.
A decade ago, ABC had the strongest network ratings due to great show lineups. In last decade, I switched to watching mostly CBS shows, until I saw Whiskey Cavalier, Black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat. W.C. was smart, suspenseful, plots were interesting, casting in various cities to appeal globally, the duo dynamic was fantastic and the costumes were designed well. Other than Ana Ortiz that needs to be replaced with a more believable acting for that particular role (she was great in Ugly Betty), ABC should most definitely bring this show back for me to return to watch more ABC… Read more »
