After 11 years, NBC has revived their Will & Grace sitcom for a ninth season. The series drew positive ratings back in the 1990s but there’s no guarantee that viewers will tune in again. Of course, there seems to be little chance that Will & Grace will be cancelled anytime soon since it’s already been renewed for a 10th season. However, if the ratings tank, early renewals can be rescinded. Will it be a hit? Can the peacock network go home again? Stay tuned.
An NBC sitcom, Will & Grace stars Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally, and Sean Hayes. Guests for season nine include Harry Connick Jr., Bobby Cannavale, Minnie Driver, Ben Platt, Michelle Obama, Michael Angarano, and Jane Lynch. The sitcom revolves around a group of best friends — gay lawyer Will Truman (McCormack); interior designer Grace Adler (Messing); Grace’s secretary, rich socialite Karen Walker (Mullally); and self-absorbed Jack McFarland (Hayes). **Status update, below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/30 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Will & Grace TV series? Are you glad that it’s been renewed for season 10 already? Do you think NBC could cancel it anyway if the ratings aren’t good enough?
**3/17/2018: Will & Grace has been renewed through season 11, extending the revival to a total of three seasons (so far). Details here.
I was an avid fan of the original Will & Grace and couldn’t wait for the reboot! I’ve tried week after week to enjoy it but, I just can’t. Too political, Debra Messing can’t act, and Eric McCormack has never been funny. This show would be better with “just Jack” & “drunk Karen”. Hey, make a show based on them?? Anyway, after weeks of recording it on my DVR, I cancelled all future recordings. It’s a shame!
Sinking like a rock. WAyyyyy too political and not funny.
A lesson to NBC about renewing shows before you see whether or not people are going to watch it. Now they are stuck with a second year which will likely be sub 1.0 throughout the season.
By the way, separately these are all excellent actors/actresses, I love them in other shows, especially Eric in Travelers & Debra in Smash. This just is not a good show. Hope they all get some better roles.
Wow. I’ve learned not to try to go back with these reboots – and I got tired of the original after the Leo episodes – but it looks like they should just be done with this. It’s a shame. When it started in the first run, the show was really, very good.
Last weeks episode taking cooking lessons (already done and was a similar set) the teacher/bread maker seeing both Will and Grace (already done with Karen’s baker with Will and Karen) the re runs have been playing around the world for 11 years so where onto it and expect better. Yes I agree the Donald Trump White House EP was boring and forced and not only would it have pissed off half of America it outcasted majority of its international audience, networks or streaming channels around the world pay NBC a lot of money for the rights and as s result… Read more »
Not interested. There’s nothing funny about this cast, they are just annoying. Debra Messing just carts around from one failed show to the next. She put the smash in Smashed, maybe someone more appealing would have made that show work. And the mystery of ‘Mysteries of Laura’ was how it actually made it to 38 episodes.
I was a huge fan of Will and Grace in the original series. I was looking forward to its return. However, the first episode was so political ( I’m an independent). I am so done with even thinking about politics and the negativity associated with it.
I do not believe that should have been aired for the premiere. So, unfortunately, it turned my stomach and I have not watched it after that. I may give it another shot in season 10.
It lost 33% of its viewers after bashing Trump and making it all about politics. Glad to see they are sharing the same destiny as the NFL.
So glad to have Will & Grace back, it’s been a long 11 years without it.
I totally agree with Candice. I will not be watching this show ever again. Used to be a great show. Now the reboot of the show is just all about bashing our President.
It’s pretty easy to do. Just watch videos of the president saying stupid stuff and gasp.
^ Something that can be applied to people EVERYWHERE. Just watch something of anyone saying something stupid and gasp.
Was soooo looking forward to seeing the gang again… but then before it was even half way over I was so angry at the bashing of our President that I had to turn it off! I removed this show from my DVR list & I will NOT be watching it again. I imagine many people who were ready for some entertainment were very upset … just watch their ratings! I don’t care if they clean up their show, I for one am never watching it again! Bad choices = consequences
Hugely Disappointed!!! I will NOT watch again. Leave the Trumph bashing out!! Disrespecting the President is Unacceptable! I’m sick of Hollywood they’re so insulting. Bye to Will & Grace
lmao is that you, trump? theres no way will and grace would respect trump, what did u expect. he represents everything they’re against.
What is President Trump against and where is your proof? Just waiting for a common sense reason to return to this show.
Because of Debra Messing’s political views, I cannot watch “Will &Grace.” (Yes, I’m just shallow like that.)
I was disappointed . I like to shows highlighting entertainers not politicians. I loved the original series and really disappointed in the direction they are taking.
I am happy the show is back because I really enjoyed it. But I hope it doesn’t turn into a slam Trump fest. I want to be entertained, not hear someones political views. That is what news and talk shows are for.
I think it was a one time thing because at the end of the episode Grace mentions ‘we should just be what we’ve always been’. The premiere was Trump-Focused probably because the reason they are back is that election skit, so they wanted to address them post-election
