What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the HBO premium cable channel, The Young Pope tells the controversial story of Pope Pius XIII (Jude Law). Born Lenny Belardo, the series features his early days as pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church. Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Vioello (Silvio Orlando), orchestrated Lenny’s ascension as the youngest and first American pope. After becoming the Bishop of Rome, Pius XIII shuns Vioello and looks to Don Tommaso (Marcello Romolo) for details on the motives of those in his inner circle. Thereafter, his mentor, Cardinal Michael Spencer (James Cromwell), stews about being passed over. Meanwhile, Lenny’s childhood friend, Sister Mary (Diane Keaton), flies in to serve as his chief advisor. The Young Pope TV show cast also includes Javier Cámara, Scott Shepherd, Cécile de France, Ludivine Sagnier, and Toni Bertorelli.

Telly’s Take
Although initial airings haven’t exactly burned up the ratings, I think The Young Pope has a prayer for a second season on HBO. The drama is a co-production of HBO, Canal+, and Sky, which means the cabler is sharing investment costs with partners. Since marquis names like Law and Keaton lead the cast, and considering the series lavish production values, to me, The Young Pope is something of a prestige project. Also, Wildside — the production company — is already developing the second season, and will bring it to HBO, Sky and Canal Plus to discuss co-financing once the script is complete. Right now, I’m comfortable going out on a limb and saying HBO is likely to renew The Young Pope for season two.

It started slow…but I stayed with it and ended up LOVING it! Something about it mesmerized me. The cinematography and the script was captivating.
I think we needed something wholesome but yet edgy in it’s own way. I have watched each episode twice. And could watch them again.
I would enjoy another season, even a prequel would be interesting.
Dish gave me Free HBO this weekend and was I glad to watch the whole series of The Young Pope. What a performance done by Jude Law and Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Vioello (Silvio Orlando). I hope there will be a Season 2.
I absolutely LOVED this series and was riveted by Jude Law’s performance, as well as his supporting actors. I am really hoping that HBO brings it back for another season!!

There are a few shows over the years that he ****** me and is much is the show house. I watched each episode about for five times and I learned something new with each. How often does that ever happen? Please continue this fantastic Siri’s great writing great directing great themes, which are very poignant for times.

Renew! The last time I got this enthralled by a tv show was with Star Trek Enterprise. The Young Pope isn’t offensive, or vulgar. It’s got a great story, fantastic actors (I’m one too), beautiful scenes and sets, complex and fascinating characters…it’s truly the best show on tv these days. It’s a story for everyone. A modern spin on this 2,000 year old institution. I can’t wait to watch season two.

Renewed definitely! Awesome show. Loved the scenes of the art, costumes, the characters. Rome is beautiful! Jude Law always been a fan, he is why I started to watch the show, awesome acting!

Jude Law is also the reason I initially began watching The Young Pope., absolutely LOVED it. Received a free weekend of HBO.. Tivo recorded and watched all episodes straight through. Which I never binge watch anything and HOPE for a 2nd + season/s. I’ll promptly cancel Showtime and subscribe to HBO!! Bring back The Young Pope!!! Jude Law, something so refreshing!

Absolutely the best series!! I don’t often find anything worth watching on tv BUT I would watch this series weekly/nightly until the pen ran dry .. sooo DEFINITELY RENEW!!
