What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the HBO premium cable channel, The Young Pope tells the controversial story of Pope Pius XIII (Jude Law). Born Lenny Belardo, the series features his early days as pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church. Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Vioello (Silvio Orlando), orchestrated Lenny’s ascension as the youngest and first American pope. After becoming the Bishop of Rome, Pius XIII shuns Vioello and looks to Don Tommaso (Marcello Romolo) for details on the motives of those in his inner circle. Thereafter, his mentor, Cardinal Michael Spencer (James Cromwell), stews about being passed over. Meanwhile, Lenny’s childhood friend, Sister Mary (Diane Keaton), flies in to serve as his chief advisor. The Young Pope TV show cast also includes Javier Cámara, Scott Shepherd, Cécile de France, Ludivine Sagnier, and Toni Bertorelli.

Telly’s Take
Although initial airings haven’t exactly burned up the ratings, I think The Young Pope has a prayer for a second season on HBO. The drama is a co-production of HBO, Canal+, and Sky, which means the cabler is sharing investment costs with partners. Since marquis names like Law and Keaton lead the cast, and considering the series lavish production values, to me, The Young Pope is something of a prestige project. Also, Wildside — the production company — is already developing the second season, and will bring it to HBO, Sky and Canal Plus to discuss co-financing once the script is complete. Right now, I’m comfortable going out on a limb and saying HBO is likely to renew The Young Pope for season two.

I was waiting with excitement for the 2nd season of “The Young Pope”. Now I’m just bummed out that it’s not happening!!!!!
HBO is moving further to the left. I eatched the first episode just to check it out. Absolute garbage, just like all their others shows.
After GOT concludes, I have no reason to keep HBO.
Am hoping there will be a new season with Jude Law. I loved this series and would buy it on DVD, but not if the end was Lenny dying! I am a Roman Catholic and found it very refreshing.
I would vote for another season. I am catholic, and I do not find it offensive. I think it is an eye opening story and the issues addressed need to be put in to action. Not as extreme as shown, but addressed.
Great show! Strong cast. I didnt think I would like it but i watched the whole season in 2 days.

I am very excited about a secound season of The Young Pope ,I think Jude Law does a steller acting job and the supporting cast is terrific I am intriged by the story line , I hope it is renewed.

Didn’t watch it when it first ran on HBO, they really didn’t do much of a promotion job IMO. My wife and I watched it on demand. It was charming, engrossing, thoughtful, intriguing, and maybe most important, different. The acting is superb on all parts. It was with bittersweet emotions that we watched episode ten for a variety of reasons that we won’t go in to in order to not spoil it for anyone who hasn’t watched it. Jude Law’s best acting! He is so freaking believable. Love the whole concept of the show. Definitely need a season 2
Great show . Demonstrates the power of the Catholic Church and the political pressures and control that the Vatican applies to the arch diaces.
I came across the show accidently and after pondering the episode (7), I was hooked! I marathoned the earlier episodes. There is more going on than meets the eye. The characters portray an evolving and intricate picture not only of the pope but of the church. Controversial and political.
I’m hoping there is a second series.
The characters and actors are facinating in their roles!
Renew and I’ll subscribe to HBO!! Absolutely loved it and I’m not a binge watcher but The Young Pope, Jude Law & TIVO changed that! More please!!!?
